for me its been bass players like Chris Squier and pretty much any great bass player. but the guy that really got me into it was my uncle. he was tryin to teach me how to play guitar, but it just wasnt me and he helped me when i bought my first bass and my acoustic bass. hes a really good guitar player and hes in a local band named Local Heroes in Pensacola.

I'm amazed at how many were inspired by family members who were musicians also. My family had no musical roots and offered no support to me whatsoever, but I still luv 'em.

Genesis, Metallica, and my best friend. sound wierd?

growing up, my mom listened to pop and my dad listened to country and classic rock. we lived on top of my grandparents bar so i loved music from the get go and danced in the bar after hours listenin to genesis on the jukebox. when i was 8 someone had left a Metallica tape on the bar by accident so of course it got into my hands. It was ...And Justice for All and i had NEVER heard anything like it and I was totally fascinated by it. i followed the guitars more than anything else. when i was 15 my buddy had an acoustic guitar and new how to play every green day song that there was so i decided to buy a bass so i could play along with him. its been seven years now since my first bass. sorry for the long story but its what influenced me. it was actually fun thinking about that. thanks for the thread!

hey, just letting you know that you spelt Tony Iommi and Black Sabbath wrong. but anyways im 14 and hes who inspired me to play guitar. i heard stuff like Into The Void, and Sabbath Bloddy Sabbath and i knew that i needed to play guitar. so its pretty sad that you cant spell the name of the person that inspired you to play guitar

The Beatles. I was about the age of the last poster when I finally sorta got on their wavelength. That was at the 1st of 67 when the Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields single came out.

Yeah...I think family can have a big impact on someones music abilities. I wish my family had some musical talent. Then I might have actually started music earlier in life. But I've always had a talent for it, which I found when I started playing trumpet in 5th grade. I really wish I was forced to take piano lessons. And it would've been awesome to start guitar a lot earlier as well. Oh well...plenty of time to get better and play.

Nobody inspired me to become a musician. I just loved music. I don't even know the names of the guys who played on my dad's records, but I loved the combination of rhythm and harmony... I still love it, no matter what kind of music it is. That's probably why I ended up as a commercial producer, being more interested in songwriting and arranging than I am in any given instrument.

At first I thought I'd play trumpet or sax (all those big band records, I guess), but ended up picking up guitar because I greatly admired my Uncle Bob who played in a '60s folk trio.

Pete Townshend did me in. It started after I sought out a Who cd after watching CSI: Miami and from there it was all down hill. After getting enough cds I finally decided, what the hell, and started talking to my parents about getting a guitar and ended up with some knock off of a knock off that looked like a strat, but it did the job. Townshend's been my favorite guitarist for some time, but now that I'm going more into Blues type music I like people like Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan and all those old Delta Blues players, but I still love Townshend and The Who more than any guitarist or band.
