Blinkers, good to see your post, +1 for Jeff Healey. :D

+1

OMG, I'd nearly forgotten about Jeff Healey and April Wine! And my wife loves Prism.

Hell, I was sure I was the only Kim Mitchell fan here on the forum.

Rawk on!

Speaking of Kim Mitchell I just learned up a couple of Max Webster songs last week in prep for a jam coming up this fall with some old friends in my hometown in BC. Paradise Skies and High Class in Borrowed Shoes. I saw Trooper play here in my little town about a month ago. I forgot how many of their songs I knew and decided to learn up a couple of those too. General Hand Grenade and Two For The Show. On a side note, Trooper was loud. Really loud. Louder than April Wine and that's saying something cuz April Wine is always really loud. I have an SPL app on my iPhone and I registered 107 dB at my seat. That is freakishly loud by today's standards. I'm actually surprised they were allowed to still be that loud in this day and age. (Maybe they weren't?) That's like old school Slade loud.

They're Canadian, and one of the greatest death metal bands of all time (and Luc LeMay is one of the friendliest people I've ever met.).

Thanks for bringing that to our attention, Floyd!
I don't know if you were serious or trying to be funny but I for one found that video to be hysterically funny. It kinda reminds me a little bit of the first time I heard Les Claypool (Primus). Outrageously over the top.

100% serious. Luc LeMay (and Steeve Hurdle, who helped him write the guitar parts on the record, RIP) is a compositional genius.

That's a great list of Canadian artists Blinkers but you have just earned a smack in the beak with a dead sculpin for not mentioning Chilliwack that contained none other than Newfoundland's own Brian "Too Loud" McCleod who also formed The Headpins when he did a little project with DÀrcy Mills where she sang and he wrote all the music and played all the instruments.Brian did this more or less as a lark but was left scrambling for musicians who could play as well as he could (which was quite a chore in itself-he was the only person I ever knew of who could play all the instrument parts of the whole "Dark Side of The Moon" album note for note) after the album went platinum in record time.

Jim will soon have to have surgery to repair his mouth that he has stretched way out of shape this time by putting both feet in it.

BTW: The missus has gone to Labrador for 10 days and there`s a music room filled with gear that`s just dying to get played....very loud!!!

I didn't forget about him, just not mentioned because he didn't do any solo work. He is my favourite Canadian guitar player. He got a lot of monster tone from that ol' sienna burst strat.

I loved TooLoud's tone back in the day.
His tone was what I was always searching for.
Pretty sure he just used an amp and a chorus pedal.
(60 watt MusicMan 212)
It was his right hand technique that gave him his voice.

Yeah that guitar had a few good mods made to it. He's using the Floyd on that clip, he used a SD or Dimarzio stacked pup in the bridge too and had more frets added to the board.

Awesome tone! :D

I also need a smack on the beak with a dead sculpin for not mentioning Klaatu, the 3 piece Canadian band that were so unbelievably great that people actually believed that they were a clandestine project initiated by the Beatles. They recorded 5 albums in their heyday and they are still together.Re Max Webster: A good friend of mine was a roadie for them in their early days and around the time that they recorded their first album, during this time he and Pye Dubois-their main songwriter-shared an apartment. He told me the sad but true story behind the beautiful song "Lily",Pye had written it for a former girlfriend of his who had committed suicide.

Of all Canadian bands,I have never been able to go for the music of Trooper and Triumph. Songs like "The Boys In The Bright White Sports Car" and "We're Here For a Good Time Not a Long Time" are like fingernails on a chalk board to me.Rush is another Canadian group that never has turned my crank-mainly because Geddy Lee's high soprano voice hurts my eardrums.Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush have always been favourites of mine.Everyone had Frank pegged as a Hendrix wannabe but since then he has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with in his own right.

I don't think that anyone has mentioned our Italian Quebecer-Michel Pagliaro whose fabulous gold record "Some Sing,Some Dance" rocketed to platinum status almost overnight.Michel went on to have other big selling hits such as "Rainshowers","Lovin' You Ain't So Easy" and "Miss Anne".

Canada has some incredible alternative contemporary talent too such as Jane Vain and the Dark Matter,The Land of Talk,Amos The Transparent, Cuff The Duke,The Dears,The Sadies,Sloan,Two Hours Traffic,Hey Rosetta,Wood Pigeon and many more.

We also have our share of folk/country artists too such as Bruce Cockburn,Ian Tyson (Ian and Sylvia),Kate and Anna Magaragle,HankSnow,Buffy Ste. Marie,Ron Sexsmith and so on and so on.
