I think it is amazing that a country like Canada with a population of 34 million can turn out so many great bands and musicians. The State of California has a population of 38 million. I have no love for Celine Dion, but Rush, Triumph and BTO more than make up for it, and I would drink Shania Twain's bath water! 8)

A lot of fine musicians have come out of Canada. My favorites are Neil Young and Rush; both are deservedly legends.

I liked Triumph a lot...until I saw them live at the Lee County Arena in Florida in '86, when they played with Bad Company. Not only was their performance disappointing, when someone in the crowd set off a firecracker they stopped playing. Rik Emmett then berated the crowd, and yelled "We've got enough fireworks up here to blow Washington, DC off the map!" A foreigner threatening to blow OUR capital off the map didn't go over very well with the FL redneck crowd  , and drinks started flying at the band. They left the stage and didn't come back until things had calmed down, played a little more, and that was it.

Sorry, but I think it was supremely stupid and arrogant to play a concert in someone else's country and threaten to blow THEIR capital off the planet. I've never listened to them since.

But hey, that's rock and roll. 8)

Soooooo .... you think it is logical for the comment to be interpreted as an honest to goodness threat. Hmm. That's interesting. So if in a conversation I happened to casually use that old saying, "if brains were dynamite that guy wouldn't have enough to blow his nose," you would assume I was threatening to discharge explosives in the guy's face.

No, of course no one took it as a threat. It was just a messed up thing to say.

I just realized that I don't prefer most of Canadian Artists/Musicians/Rock Stars/Hip-Hop Stars/Pop Stars/Singers/Songwriters, with the slightest of exceptions to maybe Shania Twain who does have the "it" pipes and Alanis Morrisette, a reasonably okay songwriter. Maybe the rest can appear on "Jeopardy" where Alex Trebek can balance out all of the musical shortcomings with his coy T.V. persona!

If brains were leather he wouldn't have enough to saddle an ant.

I used to know a ton of those brains jokes but that was 40 years ago. I've slept since then. Anything that was in RAM was lost at reboot.

Jim, oops, you did it again ( to quote americas perpetual virgin  ) I'm only here to agree that there are good musicians to be found north and south of the canadian border and musicians of the other sort as well. As for Triumph, I can understand that they have a huge fan base, Rush too. The caveat for me with those two bands was that when they started I found other bands that played a rock style of rock and roll that I preferred, no dis intended just personal choice. 8) Triumph didn't in Florida at that concert, so much for choosing band names.

Blinkers, good to see your post, +1 for Jeff Healey. :D
