It seems that Fenders post 70s seem to fetch not a lot more than what pre 80s fetch, even some limited edition and anniversary models I find are not selling at rediculous prices either...

So maybe an 80s strat might be on the way, who knows??? 8)

Mid 80's MIJ Strat's are killer guitars!

Yeah, and some the American ones are good too...

They just don't appreciate as much as the pre 80s ones, except maybe the MIJs...

What they are worth in the market really doesn't matter, what matters is if they work for you.

Due to the overwelming price craze with vintage guitars (pre-CBS) the 70's models are going up. I baught a '77 Strat for under $800 over three years ago, and now that guitar goes for over a grand. You couldn't give these guitars away twenty years ago. Not that all of them were bad, but Fender got a bad wrap by the late 70s for poor workmenship and lack of quality control. 80s MIJ guitars were better made. It wasn't until the late 80s that Fender's name was starting to get some street cred back. This was due to an over hall at Fender. The people who baught fender in the mid-80s cared a lot about Fender and wanted to realy make a good guitar. I think by '87 they finally had a new factory. The deal with CBS didn't come with a place to build them.
