I have had a problem with the last two computers (Win 7/8) and multiple devices with USB Midi controllers. Basically, when ever my computer resumes from sleep the Midi does not work even though the device is recognized. I have also noticed while searching for a solution that many other people seem to have the same problem with various devices that use Midi (Keyboards, control surfaces, etc..). After searching on and off for months I have discovered a solution and thought it may help others. Before, I had to either unplug/re-plug the USB cable for the device or reboot the computer to receive Midi. This is because the USB Midi connection is not reset completely when resuming from sleep, even though ASIO drivers and audio work - Midi receive doesn't. If you have this problem, first open "Devices and Printers" in Win 7/8 and you should see an icon of your device. Right-click on the problematic device and select troubleshoot. Let the troubleshooter run. You need to be connected to the internet and have "get latest help from Windows" enabled (enabled by default so if you have disabled that feature re-enable it). This actually does something. It makes a list of devices that need a complete reset upon resuming from stand-by (Sleep) and adds the device that you ran the troubleshooter on to the list. You can do this for each device that needs it, but it is not recommended on devices that are working properly after wake-up. I hope this helps anyone that has had this problem. I normally would not post something like this but I found the information hard to dig up and wanted to put it out there. I know a lot of people here use DAWs and other devices like I do.

This used to happen with my little Roland UM-1 USB MIDI interface, I think it's common to pretty much all small MIDI interfaces. Not a problem now since I ditched it and moved to using a Firewire audio box with built-in MIDI ports.

After experimenting with some different hardware I found that the fix did not work on an older Midi device. It did however solve the problem on a newer controller. So it may be hit or miss, but it is worth a try if you're having problems. Now to put myself to sleep.

Tru dat. It's just nice to have it work if needed.
