Hmmmm..you may be onto something here.maybe fender could put guys like Clapton/ beck on a treadmill and bottle their sweat..that way you would have truly authentic " relic stench" of your favorite player.... :D

I like where this is going. Because now we can sell Clapton stench and Beck stench and Cray stench etc etc with all the signature series to make them more "authentic". Has far as any who have passed like SRV .....that might present a problem. Perhaps we can use an old fish that has been laying in the trunk of a car for a few days as a "generic" stench for artists that have passed on series guitars.

So we might have it all covered. The guitars will look right (eyes), sound right (ears), feel right (touch), and smell right (nose). The only thing missing is flavor. Perhaps we can make old guitar and bar room stench flavored lozenges or gum?

One quick story however. I was at a party last year in LA by a band I used to tour with. At the house was an old les paul that they mainly used for recording..

What was the name of your touring band Ron?

I was in a few but the particular one I am talking about here is called KrashKarma (one word as there is another band with a similar name from Canada I think) /formerly "Suicide Holiday". The lead is an ex member of Nine inch Nails. Kind of cheesy dark metal rock but they were really hard working and fun to hang with... and good people which counts for something. I think they are currently on tour in Germany..I got an email about if but did not recognize the place..it sounded German though.

Also the drummer was a really hot babe....really hot. And she could play as a bonus lol.

Actually here is one of their vids so you get an idea...

I have been wanting to do a relic just for fun. Having fender make them and selling them as "Road Wore" or "Relic Custom Shop" always made me kind of cringe. Then again like you're saying we need to respect other people's preferences and tastes. I would just never buy a guitar like that. But I do have a Strat Plus that I call "my players guitar." It's nice to have a guitar that plays and sounds great but you're not afraid if he gets bumped a little bit.

I have not been on the Forum as much lately, partly due to summer time, but also the fact that people get unkind so easy. I come on the Forum to relax and enjoy a little diversion time. Don't like it when there are people with attitudes or come across as "know it alls!" Forums should be fun and educational. But I will also say that there is a great group of "old timers" on the Forum that are super people!

I agree for the most part everyone here is really cool, knows their stuff most of the time and has been very helpful to me and others.

But for some reason this relic thing turns them ugly and I just don't get it. Now to me they are beautiful if done right (and I have seen more then enough relic fails to know they don't always) but when push comes to shove it is just a piece of wood. I don't mind at all if anyone posts why they don't like them as that is total freedom of speech but if you have seen some of the personal insults towards anyone who likes or owns or sells relics that was posted on the comments in the Stratocaster section (which led to this post to further expand the blatant trolling, instigation and provocation), you would be as surprised as I am that it was not either deleted or warnings issued by the mods. Yes, it was THAT personally offensive. And the fact the Fender sells them and has members on their free forum calling those who buy CS relics losers and morons and suckers and poseurs etc really is taking "opinion" and free speech to a whole other level that does not belong on a legitimate forum such as this....at least in my opinion. I hope I am not wrong.

And how is playing a relic any less of a "poseur" then someone who plays a signature series or even a reissue for that matter? Those are just as "fake"...if you wish to use that term. I just don't see why some don't have basic common respect for others tastes and can be such hypocrites and judgmental like that. Or how they can comment on what it takes to build a relic correctly when they are totally cluless and think all it takes is burning it and throwing down stairs. Image

I once bought a guitar that was so filthy the owners of the music store refused to even try to clean it, they just hung it up with the nice guitars and said the heck with it. Of course, I came walking in, drifted over to that guitar immediately and ended up buying (what would eventually be) a beautiful early 70s vintage Yamaha SG-200 for about $45.

Once I got through with a few hours of serious cleaning, I had a beautiful guitar that would to this day not qualify as either road worn or a relic.

This guitar became my #2 gig guitar for years.

Getting back to the theme of this thread, I would never say anything bad about relics or roadworn guitars for fear of being labeled a dick by one of the Forum's newer and very prolific members...

I really like Westbury's take on this design. They came from the factory with Dimarzios.

Are you talking about me? What would I get punted for? Exposing that some here are being personally attacked, offended and ridiculed just because they like relics? Or that someone is posting here that I rip people off and destroy guitars for a living when they have no idea who I am, what I do, or my skill level?

Yeah..go ahead...report me and see who gets punted.

And I guess Fender would love to hear about those members who are using their forum to call others who buy their products "suckers".... which I have copied and pasted those comments. Yeah, that ought to pan out well LOL.

Because it's the only way to get certain features in a new guitar. If I want wide range humbuckers and narrow frets in a new guitar, do i have any other choice than buying a re-issue? Order a masterbuilt despite a not insubstantial risk I'll be dead before I get it?

First you want more basic common respect for others, and then you proceed to calling others hypocrites, judgmental and totally cluless [sic]. Do you not see the problem?

How is that the only way to get certain features? Can't you just buy an original? Don't YOU see the hypocrisy and irony by criticizing those who buy relics?...it is NO DIFFERENT. It is people using their freedom of choice to purchase what they like without being belittled and offended on Fenders forum.

And I would not have EVER in a million years called anyone a hypocrite, judgmental and totally clueless if that is not exactly what they were doing AND by doing so were violating the forums code of conduct. You really can't see this? Do I really need to waste my time copying and pasting everything again to prove the offenses???
