For those who purchase new guitars with the relic look, or to put it another way, a new guitar that has been factory abused to impersonate decades of legitimate road use, shouldn't said guitar also come with some serious buildup of at least, tobacco, alcohol and body odor residuals in order to complete the "vibe"? I mean, if a relic is your thing, why not go all the way?

And then there are those who sell relics proclaiming they are in "mint condition".

Discuss.

I'm not a fan of the artificial relic'd look, but I have
guitars that looked "relic'd" from road wear and even
dry blood stains <---that's not artificial either. :?

Don't get me started  ....

But I will say this. There are many reasons one would chose to pay for a relic rather then make one themselves. I am not going to do the research for you as to why but only say I refuse to judge or insult others based on the guitar finish they prefer be it minty fresh or beaten up/pre-worn etc. And anyone who does insult, offend or otherwise judge others for that is a dick...well maybe not a dick overall but acting in a "dick-like" manner regarding other peoples personal tastes and what they choose to spent their own money on.

As far as someone selling a relic in "mint condition" that is a bit of an oxymoron but it could be they mean one of the custom shop models which are for all intents and purposes "new" guitars with the COA and all that and seem to bring in a pretty penny for those who prefer that kind of thing. Supply and demand. If Fender could not get good money for it then the price would go down...make sense?

If Fender decides to rub alcohol and tobacco scent into it, it would in no way shape or form affect my life so I would not be so petty as to even comment on it unless I wanted one.

But so far it seems Fender has been successful enough selling relics and road worns without the need for "smellovision"

One quick story however. I was at a party last year in LA by a band I used to tour with. At the house was an old les paul that they mainly used for recording. I asked if I could play it and the owner said of course. Well there was a bit of drinking going on and I did not bother to look for a pick. Eventually I bled all over the guitar which was white and being it was old had no clear left and was like a sponge. I felt horrible as an old les paul is like a mid 5 figure guitar and I offered to refinish it for him. He smiled and said...Hell no...blood is cool. The bottom line is....it is just a freaking piece of WOOD.

I don't think so. There is no reason to let you guitar get nasty, that has nothing to do with the worn look. I know players that don't ever clean their guitars, and they think that this makes the guitars look like they are old. I can't stand to play a nasty/sticky/dirty guitar. Yuck!

I really like the look and feel of a well worn-in guitar. It doesn't matter how it got that way, the result is exactly the same. 8)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Just the thought that it really irritates some people, makes me want to get a '50s Road Worn.

If I do, I will post pics. 8)

Which brings us to my Guild. The swimming pool routehas blood spatter on the inside under the pickguard.

And yes, my room smelled like cigarettes when I first got it home.
