Planted in 2004 in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, the original George Harrison Tree died recently, the result of an infestation of beetles. It will be replanted soon.

I heard that on the news a few days ago. The world is not short on irony. May have to give The White Album a listen.

That is certainly ironic. Reminds me of the time when I lived in NYC I took my girlfriend at the time who loved John Lennon to Strawberry Fields in central park where there is a memorial across from the Dakota where he was shot.

It was the date he was shot and a lot of people were there. Someone was kicked out of the park for playing Johns music on a boom box. So the guy stood by the fence just outside of the park and played it. I mean really like anyone at his memorial on the date he died was going to mind hearing his music?

Predictable. It was a Kuromatsu tree (Japanese black pine), which is especially susceptible to beetle attacks.

It wasn't good Norwegian wood.

When they replant, I hope they correct the mistake and get a Pinus Sylvestris.

I am surprised they didn't plant a "English Walnut" tree, it would see more appropriate.
