gNat's are taking over my kitchen. :o I poured bleach down the sink, put vinegar with dish soap out to trap them, made sure no food is out. We don't leave dishes or food in the sink (We are clean). Somehow they are taking over  . Any good home remedies you all know of? This year is the worst I've seen them. Usually a little bleach down the drains works.

Perhaps my guitar playing is finally attracting flies

A great draw for gnats is fresh fruit -- got any apples, bananas, or uncut melons laying around on the counter?

Those SUCK...OMG I had such a problem with those a few years ago.

This actually worked. A piece of raw fruit (like an orange slice) into a plastic container with vinegar in it and punch/drill holes in the lid. Also "smooth" the holes or otherwise it makes it more difficult for those little -a-holes to get in.

What happens is (and this takes a few days so be patient) is they go into the hole and get stuck in the container. I guess they are attracted to both the fruit and vinegar odor..

Now I am a bit obsessive so I made many traps...these I made form containers that electrical tape comes in..

But I found it worked better using a few larger traps then so many small ones...I just used a larger container such as what potato salad would come in...

And the result was this... (much success!!)

"gnats" ha! forgot about the spelling. We had some garden tomatoes that were under the window to ripen. I think that's what started the infestation. Maybe some tomato parts are in the drain. I'll try some more bleach.

Nice traps, I may have to get more creative with mine.

Do the trap like I posted if they persist. The vinegar to use is red wine. Those things have a very short life span but all they do is reproduce so fast you can almost see it.

Those traps are quite ingenious and a similar contrivance can be used to minimize flies outdoors (like for an unscreened patio or gazebo).

Use a large plastic mayonnaise jar and enlarge the holes in the lid sufficiently so that a fly can effect ingress then bait it with a piece of prepared meat partially submerged in sugar-sweetened water (a slice of raw bacon or a frankfurter is ideal). Place the trap outdoors, somewhere adjacent to the area thirty to forty feet away.

use ammonia, not bleach for those.
or baking soda down the drain then vinegar.

do you have plants with wet soil nearby? that could be where they are breeding.

Another great source of gestation.

Yes, the climate here is sub-tropic so I am surrounded by plants and wet soil. None in the house now. The traps seem to be working I've caught a couple dozen so far. Also, filled the sinks with hot soapy water then drained them. They may be great in number but I will win this. :x

OP, are we talkin' gnats, or fruit flies? Because if you've got fruit flies, I have the cure.
First throw out the source. Likely some bananas in a dish on top of the 'fridge. Or a kitchen trash can that needs to be emptied.
Then pour about 3/4 of an inch of red wine into a glass. Place it in the kitchen somewhere the flies have been seen. Wait.

They'll all fly into the red wine and die. Works everytime...

Enjoy balance of red wine in bottle with SO. You've earned it.

Another word for them are water flies. Guess why.
Make sure you don't leave the sink wet, don' t throw wet stuff in a garbage can, and don't keep potted plants in the same room as sinks.
Trying to be clean by excessive washing will create more of them. A wet soap dish is a gnat smörgåsbord.
