You have 70 electric guitars?

I'm happy with my stuff, but that doesn't mean I won't be checking out this Godin tomorrow.

I've been playing the guitar for 30 years, and I'm baffled by how many guitars I have perchased, owned, traded or sold. Sometimes for very good reasons, like trying to get something else, and sometimes, for very foolish reasons.

I sometimes think, "Why did I get this guitar?" or "Why did I part with that guitar?"

Why do we do this? How is it there are people who own 2 or 3 guitars their entire life and seem satisfied with what they have, and there are people like me, who can't seem to settle on anything.

I think that if I had more money, I wouldn't have traded or sold some of my guitars. No regrets, just thinking they were really great guitars.

If you want someone to hold your hand through predestined therapy, that ain't me.

That pretty much sums up my attitude...there are a few things I would like to add to my collection, but none so pressing or desperate that I ache for them.

Lately, I haven't even had the time to play my electrics (I've done five solo acoustic shows recently...report later), but I'd still like to get a solidbody resonator and a Fender VI...

The first bass I ever owned was an Ibanez lawsuit copy of a Rickenbacker 4001. Played nice but it was just such a beast, only wish I still had it because now that I've reconnected with the friend that sold it to me I'd get it back to him.

After that I fumbled around with other basses, Ibanez, one Precision, etc. Probably 3 different basses. But the same issue always applied, I'm only 5'6" and they all seemed HUGE and uncomfortable to me. This was in the 80's and early 90's and I had literally never heard of or seen a short scale bass.

In summer '97 I was given a Fender Musicmaster by a friend, it had been recovered from a barn, in the loft and was in dreadful shape. He figured if I couldn't get it to work I'd at least not be out any $$. But I did get it going and still play it to this day.

Since that point I added another Musicmaster and an SX short scale jazz bass, but not really sold too many.

When it came to learning guitar I swapped around a little also, but my meager collection has been pretty steady for a while and I'm not really looking for more or getting rid of any.

We like the toys, that's why we want more. Same for any collector I'd think.
