Lot of good input and links...thanks people.

Also a lot of pompous urination as well (what is THAT all about).

I AM a little obsessive compulsive, and (for whatever reason) I want everything to match, and it would be darn nice if everything was genuine Fender as well.
I DO have $75 that I am willing to spend on anything that isn't a tiny piece of oval plastic.

There you go....for what it's worth, there is my explanation, for those who question.

Before I'd spend that much on a tip, I'd be looking to try to fake it. Drop it in a glass of tea for a week, hair dryer, rub it in some dirt, wood stain, hell I'd mount it to a board and put it on my roof for the rest of the summer before I'd give someone $75 for a freaking switch tip.

By all means.

You could buy a lot of bottled water, a new game cartridge for your X-box, or several lunches at your favorite McRestaurant for seventy-five bucks.

Yep. You could also buy clothing, school supplies, and nutritious food for your children. I guess it's a matter of your priorities.

I could buy a Fender Squire for 75 bucks (or less) off CL, then I could dye the switch in coffee to use for the other guitar, and part out the rest for a nice profit. Maybe even cut it into a piece of wall art or a night stand..... been there, done that. Sells for 150 ish on ebay.

If somebody can't afford $75 to put a vintage guitar back to "right", they should find a new hobby.

Arjay

If somebody can't read posts of others wanting to be frugal without belittling them for it, they should find a new hobby.

HTM's* who can't afford the basic commodities for their kids have no business wasting any money on guitars.

ummmm.... this may sound crazy Arjay, but some people use their guitars to make money to buy those basic commodities for their kids. :|

All we know about this poster is that they purchased a loaded pickguard for a late model Strat (2006 hwy 1 to be exact) and wants a matching switch tip. How this turned into what it did is beyond me (I guess in a way it "mirco-evolved" over time into something else) but really there is no reason to insult anyone or judge anyone who was simply asking here if there was a more economical option to spending 75 bucks for an "aged" switch tip.

At this point I really can't contribute much more then.....

What is going on here? Just put a chew in and spit in a cup - then soak tip for one day and dry in sunlight. I thought most people had a purple tip. Sorry for that.

LOL! Yah...it really IS remarkable how this silly little post with a simple question turned out.

I've checked out all the links, videos, and good information these fine people gave me, and really do appreciate it.
Currently I am experimenting with the white switch in coffee (I have plenty white ones around to tinker with)---and have access to more source sites thanks to you guys.

The good thing about Fender guitars, is that a person can personalize it and change the looks any which way they find that appeals to them.
What looks bad to me, or seems ridiculous in my mind may be another persons dream guitar, and vice versa. We all have our own tastes.

I am more of a guitar "player" rather than a guitar collector. I play ALL my guitars, and from time to time I like to modify the looks on some of them.

I have a 1985 Harmony H80T Strat copy that I have done nothing with (except change the knobs and a bone nut). It is black on black with gold hardware, and I like it that way. It is so aged and naturally worn that it is cool and unique in and of itself. I would understand peoples hate for it because it is not a Fender---but I've had it for nearly 30 years, and it still plays and sounds like a dream.

I'm just having a little fun doing what I like to do. Peace 8)

I think trying to give advice on a cheaper option is a noble gesture. Whoever's trying to sell a switch tip for $75 should be flogged. That's ridiculous.

I have a 80's '57 AVRI, and over time the pickguard warped pretty good. To where it was almost touching the strings. Of course, on first impulse and due to a certain amount of impatience, I opted to add a screw to it to keep it down.

Later on I had the same problem with another pickguard. That time I decided to hold it over an electric stove burner for a few seconds just to soften it. Then I smashed it between two books and immediately threw it in the fridge. Flattened it right out.

After that, I was like damn I wish I would have known to do that for the AVRI. Eventually I did. But it still has an extra screw now.

Nothing wrong with throwing out some ideas.
