It's one of those things that literally doesn't matter.

I've never had one.

Matters about as much as the color of the paint in terms of tonal quality.

I had one guitar, a Squier, with the plastic "gasket" between the neck plate and body. Its seems to me that this is a less than solid connection point, and it only makes sense that it would dampen the resonance of a guitar. The neck joint is important, and the more solid the connection, the better.

"I've never had one....it doesn't matter." <-- This is funny.

Over the decades, I've had some Fenders where the neck plate (to varying degrees) dug into and/or cracked the finish around it. So, I started using the gasket. And no, it doesn't affect sound transference at all for if it did, pickguards, pickup covers, backplates, jack cups, knobs, etc. would be brought under scrutiny as well as the player's body "muting" the back of the guitar while playing it.

Of course, Eric Johnson would probably disagree with me.

I only use one if the guitar originally came with one just to keep it correct as far as appearance. Otherwise I doubt it makes a noticeable difference in tone.

Martian, welcome back.
You've been missed.

I had one on a MIJ Squier back in the day, certainly did a good job of protecting the poly finish from cracking.

I defy anyone to hear a difference in a blind test between guitars with and without a neck gasket.

Thank you! My wife recently died of cancer and I, myself also had a really nasty battle with it which is why I haven't been around. I'm actually winning now though.

Oh, my.
So sorry to hear that.
So sorry for your loss.

Good to hear you're in remission.
