I believe in regard to the Blues, by the late sixties, Johnny had already achieved what Clapton never could.

Could not agree more. And while Clapton (again, no disrespect) became increasingly more urbane, Johnny always captured the real blues, the raw emotion that came straight from the heart and the gut.

I'm sure Eric would agree. He features on the second edition of "Roots" album due out, along with many more artists. No doubt Johnny will finally get that elusive Grammy (for his own work that is. He already has for production of Muddy Waters)

Edit - ..also I can't wait for the new documentary, "Down and Dirty"

I went to go see him play at the Stadium Theatre right here in Woonsocket several years ago and even then, he wasn't in the best of health. He had to be helped onto the stage by a couple of assistants but once he was seated , he put on one hell of a show.

Got to see him twice. Once in about 1975 or 76 at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. He was great! Saw him again around 1991 at a small club in Va. Beach, VA. He was fantastic. The warm up band did a version of “Red House” that was just an excuse for guitar soloing. About 1/2 way thru his set Johnny said he his friend Jimi’s song “Red House”. He brought the house down. I had goosebumps. When he finished he said, “Thats how ya play it”. I laughed as I am sure the warm-up band and their guitarist must have been pretty embarassed.

I think his “Johnny Winter and Live” is one of the greatest live albums ever. Right up there with “Band of Gypsies”. I am sure he and Randy Hobbs are catching up on some playing. Rest in peace Johnny.
