I make my own 11-48 sets with a wound 0.022...just what do I do with all those solid 0.016 strings?

I can't say what you do, but I braid bracelets out of (nickel-free) strings. For a 2 minute job with various leftover strings, I get $5 back.

I checked out Ernie Ball's website for you. They do not have any wound G .009 through .042 sets. Their lowest single wound strings start at .018 and come in a three pack. If you can make the adjustment from .016 to .018, you're in business.

That's been a joke for a long time, no hard feels.

They're just stiff feeling to me.

The lightest gauge of string that I hve seen with a wound G is the D'Addario 10-46 with a .017 wound string.I forget the stock number of the set but if you were to go to the Strings and Beyond website of D'Addario's own website you'd find it.Probable your best bet would to buy a set of 9-42s and buy a .017 gauge wound string separately and put that on instead of the plain G that comes with the set.BTW,the wound .017 string is very bendable as far as wound strings go and it does sound different than the plain G as it's not as bright sounding.

Then you definitely don't want to try the new Ernie Ball M-Steel ones. Too stiff by far.
Then again, I play five finger nail picking in both directions, with occasional rasgueado ("flamenco strumming"). Thus I'm rather picky about strings so I won't bleed too badly.
Ernie Ball Cobalts and Dunlop Rev. Willy's work best for me at present. YMMV.

A few months ago,I switched after using D-Addario 8-38s for over 30 years,to using Rev. Willie's Mexican Lottery .007 - .038s,mainly because of the deteriorating of fine motor response in my hands due to the as yet undiagnosed neuro/muscular condition that's been ongoing for the past 4 years.Regardless of gauge,I find these strings to be especially bendable yet they have an incredible ability to stay in tune, even after an enthusiastic session of doing Hendrixesque bends and excessively aggressive whammy bar abuse. If you "Hate" D'Addarios because they are too stiff (although they never seemed that way to me) Rev Willie's 10-42s should be perfect for you and all you would have to do is buy a few loose wound .017 or .018 strings to take place of the plain G string.

BTW: I get 12 sets of Rev Willie strings sent to me in Canada from Strings and Beyond for less that $60,considering that I paid over $8 a set for them here, the $60 price tag is a gift. http//www.stringsandbeyond.com
