Yah, I don't think I would want to play one of those either. Classic style guitars suit my taste too. Feel much more creative on something with some history. The new guitars aren't really doing anything for me (minus one or two new-old styles). However, I do like the look of the Coronado someone posted about in the hollow body thread.

I'm thinking of a Squier Bass VI, later down the road.

Try pointing the mic down and away from the drums to stop some of the oscillating from the cymbals. Getting a good live room sound is always a trade off, but taming the drums is the first order of business.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what I was going for when playing, but at least it ended up cool

The wah effect of the cymbals coming in and out as they're ridden, it overpowers the mike so that overall theirs less clarity.

You mean the wash? It's a characteristic of the cymbals themselves, and that can't be covered up easily.

Wash is what happens when you get a thinner ride to open up. Ping is what happens when a heavier ride opens up. The ride used was medium, so it ended up being balanced. The hats are washy, but they're very smooth because of the fact that they're 15" and not 14".

I don't think the cymbals were very much of an issue, I like the way they work into the sound.

not perfect, but no one is.

Uh, it wasn't fast enough or loud enough to be metal, in my opinion. Maybe slightly like Old School Heavy Metal. Then again maybe not! Just my 2 cents.

you realize there are entire genres of metal centered around slow riffing, right? Like, some bands started taking it to such extremes that they had to be further categorized as drone metal.
