I think that a well-taken-care-of cheap Chinese-made hollowbody will last; heat, cold and humidity will be it's worst enemies, but the same can be said of any glued-together instrument.

I have two 30-year-old made in Korea acoustic guitars that not only sound good, they're still durable and road-worthy. At the time they were new, they were amongst the cheapest guitars in Fender's lineup.

Don't torture them, keep them in non-extreme environments and maintain them over the years, they'll be ok. Will they last 40 years? We'll see...if I'm alive.

Fennycaster, they use really cheap, brittle glue on the MIC stuff. Many of those guitars will delaminate well before their time.

I guess Fender is going to go bankrupt from all the warranty repairs coming their way.

Sounds more like your nut needs work if you can't get a A note in tune. You actually shipped it back to the factory in China?

10 Years befor it delaminates? What kind of BS you spreading. Typical internet garbage with no facts to back it up.

I sent it to IBANEZ here in the US (NY I beleive). They replaced the nut. Replaced the tuners and rewrapped the bridge (Not sure what that entails). Open string is in tune, the harmonic and fretted note at the 12th fret are in tune, the fourth fret note is in tune.

If it delaminates, than I wil see that within 10 years :p it is a study instrument so before the 10 years are past, I' ll be buying another guitar.

But what can you guys say about feeback with hollow bodies?

I get no feed back with my semi-hollow body, but can get ear splitting feed back with my hollow body if the amp is turned up to loud.

I use my Gibson 335 quite a bit on gigs on country, jazz, and rock tunes. The only time I've wrestled a bit with feedback is when it's being overdriven hard and I'm in a cramped space in front of my amp. Even then it wasn't really significant.

I've played semi-hollow body guitars (Ibanez and Gibson) for over 40 years. When I was touring in the 70's it was my only guitar. I have never had them deteriorate or delaminate, but I take pretty good care of my guitars.

I will say this, however. It's been my experience with semi-hollow bodies that you get what you pay for. The cheaper ones are nice, but they don't compare in quality, sound, or action to a real Gretsch or Gibson 335. That's because the materials and construction actually make a HUGE difference on semi-hollow bodies just due to the nature of what they are. You owe it to yourself to compare them on your next trip to the music store before making a commitment. You might want to wait and save up the money to get one that you'll love for a lifetime.

I have a few Epi's that I like quite a lot

Broadway, (bigger than the Joe Pass, but nice sounding guitar)

Swingster, (same body as the JP, but different pickups with phase switching and a Bigsby -
really cool guitar)

Emperor Regent, (Discontinued, but a cool guitar, can be found on Ebay)

The Ibanez guitars can be a good deal, but I have found that the difference between actual ones within series can be dramatic. You really have to spend some time, play the whole neck and give them a good once over. Never buy one without playing it first.

A bit higher in price point, is the Fender '72 Tele Thinline. A great sounding and playing guitar IMHO. I have considered an Ibanez Semi Hollow. But the Thinline is a must eventually buy for me.

I never buy a guitar without playing it, but thanks for the advise anyway :) Teles are indeed nice guitars and can produce nice mellow tones, but I'm not in search for a tele for the moment. I really want that acoustic sound that a hollow body guitar produces mixed with its mellow tones.

The pick ups in the broadway are the same as in the joe pass i guess? Do these pick ups have a good articulation? Because with some hollow bodies the articulation gets lost because they 're to mellow.

hi I don't know for sure about the JP

there was sticker on the pickups on mine that mentioned USA Made electronics. I got mine in 2012.

The specs list them as "Alnico Classics" on the web site. so I'm not sure if the new ones have the same pickups.

But that is also listed on the specs for the Joe Pass so they may have made some changes and now they have the same PUPS

Mine was made in Korea, and I think it sounds really good, and the action is excellent.

(I've been playing for over 45 years, and at the moment have 18 guitars, 5 of the electrics are USA made gibsons, and three USA fenders., and I have 4 epi phones.. so I sort of know my way around these, and I understand what you are asking. so that all said, I wouldn't change the stock pickups, or anything else for that matter.)

The pickups on the Swingster are very nice btw (Swingbuckers, Chinese made). They are very PAF like when they are not set for out of phase (pull out the tone puts is the humbucker setting). Activate the out of phase settings, (push in the tone pots) and they get very Gretch/Tele sounding, and they are pretty good at resisting feedback, (and we can get pretty loud at times) Lots of cool sounds to be had with the Swingster. Bigsby works well on mine. I know some people have had some bad luck with some of them, (faulty electronics) but mine I guess I got lucky, it's great. I bought the White Royale, and I just love the thing. the Swingster is the same body as the Emperor II (JP) model. so if you want something smaller than a full size archtop.. this could be an interesting alternative.

Good luck!

Anyone got an opinion about the Epiphone P93?:
http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Archto ... m-P93.aspx

A local pawn shop has one been sitting around a year in New shape. He wants $600 for it with a hard shell case.
I think that's way too much........don't know if this is even made anymore.
Maybe can talk him down.
