Just wondering...Would any of my fellow Strat players be interested in one-touch access to alternative pickup wiring configurations that don't require "Personality" cards? Analog and with a totally familiar "feel".

Interested... ?? Sure, why not? :)

Would I buy such a thing...??

No way to tell until I'd get a chance to inspect it, use it, hear it... and hear the price !

cheers!

What is this? I'm not sure.. What are "Personality" cards?

Short answer: No

Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Sensible answer: I've experimented extensively with phase switches and series/parallel wiring in the past and I've always ended up ripping it all out and going back to stock Strat wiring. Single coils in parallel do NOT sound like a humbucker, they sound like muddy single coils. I don't even use the S1 switch on my Strat, the plain vanilla parallel sounds are all I ever need.

The only wiring variation I've kept for more than a few months was the Dan Armstrong superstrat wiring with the three mini toggles. That had one or two combinations that were useful. Problem was it had another half dozen that sounded like a gorilla breaking wind down a lift shaft.

Yes. Now make your case.

Okay, this is what I'm referring to: I have designed a pickup switch that gives you one-touch access to both "stock" wiring and an equal number of alternative wiring configurations or even all alternative wiring configurations, if you want. It is capable of series/parallel, coil tapping/splitting as well as in/out-of-phase configurations. It can be retro-fitted into nearly any guitar with only minor modification. It was designed with simplicity being a top priority: it is both tech and, most importantly, user friendly. There is no soldering required and, just like the switches currently being used, simply touching the switch tells you exactly where you are. To experiment with different wiring configurations, all you need is a screwdriver. It is analog, totally passive and has the same "feel" as the pickup switches we have all been using since forever. Prototypes should be in-hand shortly and I am very excited about both using and demonstrating this new product to my fellow guitarists. If you would like to be kept informed about this product, e-mail me at amagtrist@yahoo.com and be sure to put APS (Advanced Pickup Switch) in the subject line. :)

Sounds interesting. Put up a youtube when you get a working prototype of the installation and demo of the configurations and different sounds when you are at that point. Granted it does not seem like this changes the tone pots in any way like the personality cards I like the idea of a simple way to get the 2 outer pups alone, and all three together with a choice of series and parallel configurations. I myself don't really like or need that many selections but some of my customers certainly would and doing unique and custom builds/setups is part of what I do.

OK I now know what "personality cards" are. Thanks Youtube. I guess I'm a little late to the party. I always like the idea of the "Toneshaper", it just seemed like $100+ was a lot for something I can wire myself. I love mods, granted standard wiring is most useful. (Bridge + neck) and (B+M in series with bypassed tone and 500K volume pot) are pretty nice. And blender mods are kinda nice. As long as you can "true bypass" the mod so it doesn't kill the sparkle of the standard wiring. I always wanted to take 500K pots and cut them to 250 on certain settings, so I can use series/parallel mods without the mud you get sometimes. So many options...Oh no, I getting the mod bug again.
