anyone else do this easy fix for tone and volume knobs that are too "twirly" ? remove the knob, put a 1/2" o-ring over the shaft of the pot and replace knob... now the knob stays put when bumped, yet still moves smoothly when adjusted... very useful on the tele for balancing volume when switching between neck and bridge p-ups -- set it and forget it

First of all, you need to say what type tone and volume knob this is for, because there are several different kind of knobs - teles have barrel knobs, witch hat knobs, and different diameters.
And then you need to specify the o-ring dimensions. O-rings have two diameters - the larger one you have specified as 1/2", but what about the diameter of the wire?
And what kind of material? Metal or plastic or rubber?
And finally, you need to tell us how this works - is it friction against the base? If so, will it work for guitars where the knob isn't on top of a pickguard, without scratching the finish?

OD = Outside Diameter

ID = Inside Diameter

Great tech tip, I'll give it a try if I ever come across a knob that's too sensitive.

Good points you bring up -- this trick worked on my strat and my tele, which have different knobs, but both have pots with 1/2 inch retaining nuts, hence the ID of the o-ring... it works by friction, and the rubber o-ring should not scratch your finish -- not an issue for me, however, because I don't treat my guitars like collector's items, I play 'em !

I have done this trick on a couple of pedals with this problem...especially some of the vintage MXR devices with one big knob at the end of my oversized toe.

I don't remember who now, but somebody out there markets a product in the guitar magazines to remedy this problem, it was basically just an expensive rubber washer, so I figured an o-ring would do the job without the dent in the wallet
