I'm really excited about this.

Whether or not it can be called a "Pink Floyd" album i suppose is another discussion. IMO as long as Rick Wright and Nick Mason are on it I'm good with that. Either way, i can't wait to get my hands on it.

Just my opinion, and I am ready to get flamed ...

Pink Floyd sans Roger Waters = a re-named David Gilmour solo project that is called "Pink Floyd" in order to make more money than if it was called "the David Gilmour Project"

And that is not bad. Gilmour is awesome, but ... it is still not Pink Floyd to me.

No flaming from me sir. I totally agree with you and disagree with you at the same time if that makes any sense whatsoever.

I’m one of the biggest Floyd fans I can think of and I’m on the fence with this too. To me, he’s certainly earned his right to call it Pink Floyd at least for sure on the last two. As for Waters… I have mixed feelings on this. Look at ‘The Final Cut’. I love that album for what it is but at the same time, it’s a lot of Waters dribble. For me… I am starting to appreciate the Gilmour/Wright combination more than the Gilmour/Waters that is the subject of so much debate. The early to late 70s was clearly their Hayday and Animals is my all time favorite from that era... actually of their whole catalog. You have the Waters abrasive lyrical statement and edginess, but the music still grooves and Gilmour's tone is incredible. The Tele sounds amazing on Dogs. A moment leading up to "The Wall" where they still worked together it seems.

Jeez I could go on all day about this with fellow fans I think I’m talking gibberish at this point.

I agree. He's a great guitarist, but not one of the original Pink Floyd, and I would have liked it better if the name had stayed with Roger Waters. After the break, Waters' "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" was far more like Pink Floyd than "Momentary Lapse of Reason", which was basically a David Gilmour m11n fest, and not really a PF album.

He's as much an original member as the rest. He joined right after their first album was released. Had he not replaced Syd Barret they might have gone on and did what they did. Don't get me wrong, I like Syd Barret but they took a completely different turn when he was relieved of his duty.

As for Pros and Cons. I just find that to be more Waters dribble. Amused to Death is a better Waters album. But I'll take Momentary Lapse over Pros and Cons any day. 'Yet Another Movie' has some incredible guitar on it.

I'll get flamed for this for sure but Clapton is a great player but I don't care for his work on Pros and Cons at all and from what I've read he wasn't all that thrilled with his experience with wirking with Waters

If david gilmour didn't step in and save pink floyd from syd Barrett's drug induced mental ramblings they would simply never have been.i would never disagree that roger waters was an important part of the creation, and the magic between him and gilmour was awesome, the simple fact is that gilmour saved the band before they were famous, was the main reason they were famous and carried on making them famous.$@!& clapton....gilmour is god.

Gilmour is a great guitarist but the real genius of Pink Floyd was in the songwriting of Roger Waters. Obviously Waters' solo projects suffered comercially from not being named "Pink Floyd" but the standard of his music hasn't dropped at all.

And this gives me an excuse to post Jeff Beck so here we go.

From what I've heard, Waters has an abrasive personality and loves discussing things to death, and the older Slowhand isn't one who likes to be lectured, so I'm not surprised. They're both great musicians, but perhaps not the best match. Waters would do better with someone more flexible, I think. Brian May or Robert Fripp, perhaps - neither of whom are strangers to doing symphonic stuff and backing off to let the song and its message come to the foreground when needed.

Andy Newmark was perfect in Pros and Cons, but then again, I don't think there's any style of music or any musicians he can't play with. He might not be Nick Mason, but he could probably fool Nick Mason into believing he was.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what Gilmour/Mason comes up with. They're both exceptional rock gods, but have done lackluster things in the past, so I hope they get it right!

I dont have alot of beck experience but I was expecting something way different..I'm not sure if I've ever heard this before or not but it sounded like jeff beck making a poor attempt to sound like gilmour or just his take on music written by waters?..definatley has a pink Floyd vibe but sounds like pieces of old floyd.from the small amount of Jeff beck that I have listened to I thought it would be alot different...and better..

Amused to Death is a fantastic album and I love Jeff Beck's work on it.
