The utterly incredible Tito Puente. I hope to be this mad myself one day.

Someone will probably flame me for this, like I care.

Growing up in the 1970s I was always very aware of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and the noises of the huge modular synths of the time. I'd still dearly love a modular setup like this. Anyone who can leave a simple 8-step sequencer running and then manipulate filters to produce a truly musical performance in real time from a machine like this deserves respect.

Herb Alpert. There's just something about the trumpet that moves me, and this guys one of the best.

I like a little jazz now and then, especially when I'm driving. It seems to diminish my road rage. Here are few of my favorite non-guitar jazz musicians.

Classic jazz: Cannonball Adderley, John Coletrane, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins

Modern smooth jazz: Boney James, Rick Braun, Keiko Matsui, Chuck Mangione

Another vote for Stevie Wonder. His clavinet intro to "Living For the City" still blows me away just like it did the first time I heard it on my friend's stereo 40+ years ago.

How about the famous Horn Section from the band Chicago?

True fact: One of Chicago's founding members Walter Parazaider (woodwinds) is so incredibly talented, that it just boggles the mind. Way way WAY back before Chicago - even back before they were CTA (Chicago Transit Authority), they were all students at DePaul University, earning degrees in music. Walter Parazaider was so amazing on clarinet that he auditioned for -and won!- a chair in the city's Symphony Orchestra. But he turned it down to focus on the idea of combining a rock 'n roll band with "school band instruments", and thus, the famous term "Horn Section" was born.

If/when I ever get back into playing with a band, or maybe forming one of my own, it will have a horn section! My problem is, would I stick with my Fender Strat as lead guitar, or would I play my trombone or my trumpet or a sax (which I don't own (yet), but I know how to play one).

+1

The horn section of Average White Band are no slouches either!

He's the fastest (and one of the most creative) drummer I have ever seen. I've seen him live like 6 times, always an incredible show. More known for his other band Lightning Bolt, but that involves a bassist (albeit with his bass tuned like a cello).
