Jimi played a variety of instruments over the brief course of his professional career......

Yes Jimi can be found playing a variety of different guitars and used a variety on some of his recordings. But all of his "epic" or "iconic" performances happened to be done on a Strat so hence why he is strongly associated with them. Not to mention it seemed like of the few he burned and smashed all happened to be Strats.

Why is this noteworthy or strike anyone as odd..??

As guitar players, don't we all want to experience/experiment with as many guitars as we can..??

I know I do !

In less than 3 yrs. I've acquired 9 different guitars, 4 different Types, play them all regularly (at least weekly).

I have a Rickenbacker 360 and a Les Paul Standard in my sights, but for the purposes of domestic tranquiliy, currently I am holding right now at CONDITION D -1 !

I'll know when the timing's right to add these to the mix.

But, if I were Jimi, with his Talent, I'd have owned 1,000 guitars ! 8)

cheers!

The reason it is noteworthy is that many of us never knew that he played one ... the SG either for that matter. So this is kinda new information that is interesting. At least to me ...

Players who are lefty had a bit of a challenge to overcome back in those days. Paul McCartney has said that the reason he liked Hofner basses initially was that -- with lefty models of any make being very scarce -- he could get the right-hand Hofner version, and then play it lefty without it looking weird due to the instrument's symmetry. He ended up liking it, and stayed with it soon afterward when he got a proper lefty Hofner model. The rest, of course, is history and VERY fortuitous luck for the Hofner company.

That's a good point, guess I assumed that Fans would already know most of this.

Add to this, when Jimi was a Screamin' Eagle w/ the 101st Airborne (yes... he has a set of Jump Wings), he spent most of his downtime at Ft. Benning w/ a Gibson Songbird accoustic from the 1940's.

cheers!

Maybe that's an Epiphone Wilshire? Hard to tell from the pic.

Edit: I think that's the Danelectro:

He played a 56 LP at the Fillmore in 1968. At some European shows he played a Gibson SG Custom, the same one played when on the famous Dick Cavett appearance. Also used a 67 Flying V for many recordings. Gibson custom built a 69 V for him used some at the Isle of Whright concert.

OP here, thank you all guys.

Yes, I knew about flying V, white SG LP Custom, and all other guitars he played however I never saw a pic/video of Maestro playing a black Les Paul Custom, thus my post.
