Thought I'd bring this thread back to life again since I have updated my recording studio from Tascam to GarageBand.

Excellent program for those using a mac. I have had great success recording with this software.

Also used my Fender guitar.

You can hear some of the tracks on myspace page. See link below to Bratt Scovil.

Enjoy!

I love GarageBand, when I switched to a Mac it eliminated recording headaches. Add a Apogee Duet and Logic Express and you have the perfect home studio setup.

Het Jam76,

Do you have any music you've recorded to listen to? I can only imagine with the additions you have to GarageBand, it has to be an awesome recording set up. I am looking to upgrade to Logic as well and wondered how well it functions and ease of use b4 I spend the bucks.

Yeah I can email you some music I have recorded...

Guitar>Pod XT Live>iMac G5>Garage Band.

I have an M-Audio Mobile Pre (USB) to use with mics for vocals or amps, but for the random recorded noodling I do, it's more convenient to use the Pod.

I just use a Lexicon Alpha with Cubase LE. It was cheap and is very easy for me to lay down all the bass lines/riffs/noises that I come up with.

I'd like to get some software--maybe when I upgrade my computer I'll get some--or get a computer that comes with it.

I have a bunch of cassette tapes that are from a regular cassette deck & microphone. I have several mixed demos done on both Fostex & Tascam 4 tracks. (I know people who have them.) But on my own, I've done one take of riffs, etc to remember them and play along with--or to record ideas, and I've tried some tape on tape recording--but on cassette that deteriorates quite quickly. I like some of the newer digital recorders, but I think I may just go with the software to fool around with--okay--and I'd get the accessories as well to hook up mics & amps & instruments to my computer---something like that.

Hey Scanman13,

Looks tight in that room. Quite the set up. I am sure some of us would enjoy listening to what you have been composing with all that gear.

Care to share a song or two?

Got a MySpace page where we can hear you?

I probably have the cheapest (if you don't count the computer) setup there is.

I have my microphone, going into a karaoke machine, going into the line-in on my MacBook Pro, running GarageBand.

The karaoke machine essentially acts as a power amp. Before I got the MacBook, I had a powered line-in, so I didn't need it. The MacBook has a passive line-in, so I do.

Current Setup:
Lexicon Lambda interface
Sony ACID Pro 6
Sony Sound Forge 9
Beta Monkey drum loops (betamonkeymusic.com)

Stuff I don't use anymore:
Cubase LE (Came with the Lambda; some really like it, but it's not as easy to use ACID, imho.)
Lexicon Pantheon Reverb plug-in (Came with Cubase - I love it, but you can't use it with anything but Cubase.)
TASCAM PocketStudio 5 - PC-based recording is easier for me and more versatile than a stand-alone recorder, though, I'm sure they make better ones today than they did just a few years ago.

Hey Barry, sorry I didn't respond- I've been off the forums for a short while. Funny thing, I have quite a few compositions, but no MySpace page or anything similar. That's something I really need to do soon. Most of what I've been doing is background tracks for our church and I'm working primarily with Reason. The "studio" is about to change as I have a mix of analog equipment and the computer, and I want to simplify things a bit. Anyway, one of these days I'll get around to setting up a page to share my music.

Hey brothers! I use a Shure SM57 mic, Behringer 1204FX board, Lexicon Omega interface, and Audacity with all of the plugins. Behringer Truth monitors as well. This is what seems to work for me just recording guitar tracks and sometimes recording my piano. I'm still messing around with my Marshall JVM410H head though. That damn thing has 4 channels all of which have 3 different settings, 2 different reverbs, 2 different masters, ambience, and presence. That's enough to make your head spin man  ! For professional recordings I just go over to my buddy's awesome studio and jam out because I don't really like to spend all of that time with programming and stuff as I have a hard time putting down the axe :D !
