You really need to give a listen to the Live Album "EC Was Here" Recorded in Santa Monica at the end of his 1974 tour, if those cranked electric blues don't make you sit up and take notice of Slowhands abilities, nothing will.T2

+1000: His extended guitar solo in "Rambl'in" on that recording is one of my favorites. The other all time grabber IMHO is on the Harrison Japan tour CD.."If I Needed Someone".

Hope EC enjoys the break. He has younger kids and wife and my guess he would like to spend more time with them, and he has had enough crap (some of it by his own doing) in his life and certainly deserves a break. T2

That's a 'one off'. They must have recorded the entire tour and pulled the best for the CD set. What the EQ was to get the guitar to sing and sustain like that is something we'll never be privvy to. I've seen two videos of them performing that song and only one of 'em has that solo. The other is close, but no cigar. That's one of the perks of live recordings. Sometimes a moment is captured, never to be repeated twice...like the celebrated Crossroads solo. I don't think he's ever tried to reproduce that one.

Which brings to mind the image of Clapton sitting alone in a room, noodling on a guitar, with an occasional muttering "how the heck did I do that?". :)

With a couple of hits of "window pane" it'll all come back to him.
