By the way, I'm back again

Do you guys ever watch those old live Beatles concerts and see that George sometimes messes up his solos or riffs? I know everyone makes mistakes but it seems coincidental that he usually makes live mistakes in 66 - the same year they stopped touring

I'm probably over-thinking, but check out these live songs - keep an eye on the solos and riffs

All in all, George was still a great guitarist...his solo and Beatles work shows :D

Several theories. One is they could not even hear themselves over all the girls screaming non stop. Another is they were not really known for being a "live" band but studio geniuses. Or, Harrison simply messed up. On many of their studio recordings it was Paul and John on the guitars and of course Clapton on "why my guitar gently weeps". But yes live George was expected to do solos and also did on many recordings, just not maybe all the parts. I highly doubt their reason for them stopping tours was Georges playing though.

It wasn't just limited to George... Watch Ringo sometime.

He drops more beats than a 90 year-old arrhythmia patient !!

But put them all together and they changed the World !! :D

cheers!

John screws up the lyrics to Rock & Roll Music, and Paul messes up the lyrics to I'm Down.
They were going full tilt boogie, all day every day. Pretty hard to be polished living that kind of life. I think you're overthinking this.

True...if you watch Ringo at times it does not even seem like he cared for more then anything but all the girls. Can't say I would be any different in his shoes considering back then they really didn't have to do anything but be on stage and the crowd went wild, no one could hear anything anyhow, and they were making so much money from albums and merch, movies, royalties etc that touring was probably something they were more convinced to do by promoters then they wanted or had to.

In my anthology book they say sometimes there was so much screaming nobody could hear the music, and nobody cared so they weren't too fussed about playing perfectly.

I suspect you're right -- my friends and I had nose-bleed seating at Candlestick Park in 1966 and aside from thousands of screaming girls, we couldn't hear jackfookingshit.

Largely they were at the mercy of the house PA. Today I hear bands mess up way worse all the time with way better gear.

Supposedly, that was the best show of the 66 tour because they knew it was their last, they gave it all they had.

If you listen to the audio of that concert it sounds a helluva lot better than most of their concerts. George adds extra parts to the solos and such - check it out :D

I get the impression that George was prone to the occasional mistake on stage, but no more so than most musicians.

To my ears, the solo for All You Need Is Love was obviously flubbed at the end. To be fair, though, that one was performed live in front of a worldwide television audience!

Well, monitor speakers hadn't been invented yet

Maybe not exactly monitors SK , but in 1965 I had a Selmer Treble n bass 50 head and 2 12 inch speakers in a seperate cab , the bass player had a 100 watt valve amp and 2 18 inch speakers and we had a 100 watt PA system with 2 columns with 4- 6 inch speakers in each
We found that instead of setting the columns so they pointed either straight ahead or slightly outwards, we got a much better sound by turning them inwards like this ( the audience seemed to absorb some sound, so we could turn up the mikes pretty loud with virtually NO feedback
(excuse terrible drawing)

The only problem was the drummer couldn't hear the vocals properly, so I still had an old watkins dominator amp lying around, so we used the line out output from the PA amp into the input of the dominator and put that behind Keith, the drummer
We found that we could turn the volume up enough that we could all hear the vocals clearly , never seemed to get any feedback either, so we used that system for nearly 3 years without any real problem

BTW.....check out these guys , particularly the George look and soundalike

The reason they stopped playing live was John. That has been fairly well documented. Further, that assertion seems fairly well corroborated by how very rarely John ever played live in the 1970s ... almost never, I believe.

Yeah, except for that whole "Live in New York City" album...

George played less live than John did, and was dead against touring. They all burned out, and then John made his Bigger than Jesus comment, and among threats because of that, being burned out, and wanting to focus on the studio, they all happily stepped away from Beatlemania.
