From Todd Snider's "Lookin' for a Job"

You need the context of the few lines preceding it to get the whole meaning but it's pretty good in itself:

"I'm sharing a room with two guys over at the motel six, boss
sending every dime I make here home to my ex wife
Just did 2 years and 28 days
with a little better aim i'd a been in there for my life so you see
broke won't take much gettin used to,
neither will these barbed wire jailhouse walls

Watch what you say to someone with nothin, it's almost like havin it all

Or, from his song "If Tomorrow Never Comes"

If worms had daggers, birds wouldn't f*** with 'em

The man is a lyrical genius

OK this is stanza from the Replacements 'Bastards of the Young'

The ones who love us best are quietly laid to rest
Visit their graves on holidays at best
The ones who love us least are the ones we'd die to please

The contrast between putting the ones who love us best in graves juxtaposed against US dying to please the ones who love us least is genius
The internal rhyme scheme of best-rest graves-holidays and least-please would make Dylan proud. Incidentally, they played this song on Saturday Night Live and have the distinction of being the only musical guest kicked out of the SNL studio during taping for rude drunken behavior!

That line is actually by Robert Johnson, in his song "Travelling Riverside Blues'" which Led Zep also ripped off, er...covered.

+1

This doesn’t really count as a one liner lyrically since it’s a musical phrase but in the middle section of “Dogs” by Pink Floyd Gilmour throws in the phrase from the Doctor Who theme song. Its only the first part of the phrase I suppose due to the need to avoid copyright infringement but its done very subtle and tasteful. He finishes the lick on the live version on bootlegs I’ve heard as well as the live version of “One of these Days” on Delicate Sound of Thunder

Just thought that’s a cool tip of the hat they threw in for Dr. Who fans.

another lyrical line i like is

"Suddenly you were gone, from all the lives you left your mark upon" - Rush

Good line that makes me think of friends and family who have passed on.
