I salvaged two 4 inch speakers from a Toshiba projection TV. They are 15 watt, 8 ohm and have really heavy magnets. Part number is:A4 485. Could these be of any use with an amp?

They'll "work" in the sense that sound will come out of them, the question is how good will they sound. Televisions have full-range speakers designed to cover as much of the audio range as possible. Guitar amp speakers are far more restricted in their treble response, that's what takes a lot of the "fizz" out of distorted guitar sounds.

Personally, I'd use them for hifi instead.

TV speakers likely won't go deep enough. An open E bass string is 82.41 Hz, while a television is "optimized" for human speech frequency range, at around 200-3000 Hz. Which is why watching concerts on a TV without external speakers is such a downer, even when the signal source hasn't been cut too badly.
That said, sure, you can use it, with a cabinet and some equalization. There are tiny non-toy amps out there - they just won't do bass much justice.
Will it be economically feasible, though? Probably not, given that you can get a Pignose 7-100 new for $80.

A 4" speaker is going to have near-zero Bass response and won't project across to the other side of the room.

Not only that, but being TV speakers, the voice coil will likely survive maybe 10 minutes once hooked up to a guitar amp. These were designed for an entirely different use than you're proposing.

Don't waste your time, tuck them away for some other type project. The work and expense required to mount them won't be worth the result.

cheers!

Make a really huge set of headphones. 8)

But seriously you are not going to get enough lower frequency output from a 4" and amplifying them will most likely toast them in minutes, especially at lower frequencies. If you use a hi pass crossover they will handle more power and be pretty loud but again with no bottom end.

EDIT: I see others posted the same info, sorry about that I should have checked first.

back in the '80s I spotted a Curtis Mathis Stereo console unit in a guys yard w/a "for sale" sign on it......nothing on it worked, so I gave him $5 for it.
stripped the pair of 12" C/M hi-fi spkrs out of it on the spot & left the rest sitting there for him to try to sell, sans spkrs.
those spkrs stayed in the back of my old Jeep for years.......sounded great !

So are you the guy that started this craze?.......

But kidding aside there is really not much to a speaker and as long as you don't toast a voice coil or shred the cone they can last a really long time. However you used 12" hi-fi speakers which can handle some low end vs 4" television speakers.
