Does anyone know if Weber made speakers with a double seamed cone like this? Years ago?
It's on the Bay and I don't know if it's a re-cone or what. Thanks for any input.

I honestly do not have the answer to your question. The only reason I looked at this thread...

is because....

I honestly thought it was about.....

That speaker definitely looks to be a re-cone.

Even though it likely works, a double seam like that is a poor design and not likely to be as robust as a single seam. It is as if the repair was improperly cut to form a cone initially and then jerry-rigged to work.

I've never seen an early OEM seamed cone using that technique, they're always a single seam.

cheers!

I've never seen any speaker -- vintage or contemporary -- with a double-seamed cone. Such a contrivance would double the margin for alignment error when affixing the voice coil to the cone and cause a second *potential* weak spot to the surround.

Thanks for the input. I'd just never seen that before, looks like a passer upper.

Nah, I have Weber speakers in two of my amps and they don't look like that. I have an Alnico in my 5e3 clone and the magnet has a cover in it so I can't help you there. i have a 12A125a and I believe that the A is Alnico.
