I guess it's like anything else. A hammer is just a hammer. What it can do depends on who is holding it. I've had nothing but success with Fender FUSE.

well I disagree, but even if they did discontinue all of these products (yes I know a couple have been replaced), the amps will still work, and Fender FUSE will still work. I really don't see a problem.

Fender FUSE already does not work. It doesn't support high DPI displays, because the obsoleted Silverlight doesn't support DPI scaling.
At as little as 150 DPI, the stomp boxes disappear below the bottom of the window, and cannot be seen or used.

Changing the compatibility mode for an app has no effect on Silverlight apps, cause the process running isn't your app, it's Silverlight. You need to set your whole system's DPI to "smaller" or "medium" to be able to see the contents[*], and on a high DPI display, that means that pretty much everything becomes so small that it's unusable.
With common laptop displays now being 180+ DPI, this is a problem that requires a FUSE redesign, using technologies that does support scaling.

[*]: There's a hack for forcing scaling off for all Silverlight apps, but that comes with its own set of problems, like losing Aero, and text becoming too small to read and buttons too small to hit.

Then there's the whole USB 3.0 under Windows 7 streaming incompatibility debacle, but Fender is far from the only one bit by that, so I won't hold it against them. But if buying a new computer, make sure you either get one with at least one USB 2.0 port, or that it runs Windows 8, because USB 3.0 drivers under Windows 7 run in userspace, and cannot do kernel mode functions like exclusivity. For FUSE, it means you can still configure, but not stream, unless you have an USB 2.0 port or downgrade to Windows 8 where USB 3.0 drivers (less securely) run in the kernel.

I've experienced the off screen/DPI issue with Amplitube, but not with fuse (on win 7 or 8 ), on my standard resolution settings (on my phone right now, cannot recall the exact resolution, but my middle aged eyes can't read on higher settings on my 15" laptop screen)

On streaming: I didn't have a USB 3.0 on my previous windows box, but in windows 8, you have two streaming options: The Fender ASIO driver in whatever DAW you happen to use, and the USB direct audio device windows sees as "Mustang Aux" in a tab with windows audio devices (mic), it is disabled by default and once enabled works just like a stereo USB mic input, and can even be used with Audacity (required a special hacked ASIO Audacity install previously), you just have to remember to disable it when using the ASIO driver.
I notice no difference in using either the USB 2.0 or 3.0 port with the Mustang in control or streaming (I monitor the mustang directly to avoid any latency issues).

My recording requirements are simple, and maybe if I needed "more" I MIGHT feel the Mustang is lacking, but after three previous USB recording interfaces (Line 6 Pod, Digitech RP, and M-Audio) the Mustang fills the bill better than any of them did. The only other recording interface I now have is my Line 6 ux1, and that gets used primarily for vocals and bass... now that I have a Bronco 40, it'll be down to vocals.

I had the opportunity to try a friend's Fender Mustang IV V2 for several hours last week.

Even with my admittedly limited skill and experience, I have to say that this is the first amp I've tried - running into the dozens (I own 6) that I genuinely did not like at all !! Every other amp, despite brand, that I've played had at least some redeeming factors to it.

IMHO, the sound was inferior to even my near-20 year old SS Princeton Chorus.

I get why it's popular, Fender name, Black Tolex, low price. I'm sure many people (mistakenly) feel that this amp eleviates the need for the bulk and expense of a pedal board.

The amp models I played with fell waay short of approaching, never mind duplicating, the sounds of the classic amps.

With 100 Presets, 18 Amp Models and 37 Effects, it just struck me as Helmet Fires in a Box ! And that's without factoring in the FUSE software. Likely a major reason it's a hit with the 'More is More' crowd.

I suspect the pre-flight checklist on a 737 is less demanding than setting this thing up. I watched my friend set it up and was struck by how much he was playing the amp and not the guitar.

To those who love them... Good on Ya !! (+ it lessens Demand pressure on prices for other amps)

But for me, there are way more capable amps out there in the same price range or less.

cheers!

Lightnin, you hit the nail on the head. I'm waiting for all the Mustang devotees to come out and tell you your wrong. I had the same experience. Too many bells and whistles for my taste and the tone did nothing for me. They're popular because they're inexpensive and have all the presets and other stuff that some people find appealing. Trying the Mustangs out, I found it too much work to get even a half decent tone out of them. I find Fender's digital effects are generally noisy and full of digital "artifacts". Fender usually always drops the ball when it comes to software. It's usually plagued with problems with no support. The same thing happened with the GDec. I'll stick with the old school stuff. I enjoy building my own amps and effects. At least when something goes wrong, I only have myself to blame.

A hammer won't stop working if you no longer can get white pine wood or 3.125" nails. And it doesn't have non-standardized chips inside it that one day will burn out.

I am toying with the idea of buying a Fender Mustang IV V2, but only if they dont come out with a Fender Mustang Floor V2.

well jasonk931, as you can see, the Mustang series of amps is controversial. What could be more rock 'n' roll than that? :P

I kind of see the nay-sayers like my dad using a Windows computer. He had nothing but problems, declared it a piece of crap and went out and overspent to have an Apple computer which does all the same things.

In the meantime, my brother took ownership of the Windows computer (worked just fine). Since my dad had taken to calling it "that moribund computer", my brother called the tower "Maury".

I'm a geezer and use both PC and Mac. I prefer the Mac. Just has less issues for what I do (Professional Photography) and seems to use the memory more efficiently and runs Adobe products a bit faster. Never had a virus or spyware problem on my Mac, not saying it couldn't happen, but it hasn't so far. To each his own. Still it has nothing to do with the Mustang Series. They'll be gone as soon as sales start to slow up. There's too many better sounding modeling amps in that market. Line 6 comes to mind. You can also just use your laptop and run through the PA system.

My point is, my dad thought the computer was unusable. It turns out it just needed a more knowledgeable user. You can't really fault the device for that.
