I'm still looking for a new music outlet. I don't want to fall into the trap of this or that or this is the only music to listen to deal. Retro, Progressive, Old School, or Pop there's got to be something in between those distinctions. I've heard some journalists already give a formula for a pop song; Four chords is all you need or in the case of some music none. Oh and good song's have at least two parts; a verse and a chorus. I think good music asks questions, like who the h*@@ is singing, what are they singing about, where is the music taking one, how do they make that sound and forget the when part because it doesn't or shouldn't matter. If I were a musician I would want my music to be absorbed by someone completely different from oneself or one's family, friends, peers, associates, acquaintances etc. etc. To really create something new you don't want any preconceived notions about you or your art. Ah, now that's what I'm talking about! :!:

Deep Tracks is good, too. When I listen to satellite, those are primary stations.

Jim,

Whether you've realized it or not, seems like you've already fallen into your own trap....by limiting yourself to what you won't listen to because it falls into a specific type of genre. Are you telling me that just because a song is listed as pop, old school, retro, etc. that it's not going to provide me with the answers I seek? Everything you've describe can be found in any and all types of genres. For me all music is an expression of ones self, and all great music moves people in the ways that you've described, regardless of genre.

Looking for a new music outlet is like looking for love, it's neither here nor there but it's everywhere. Let it come to you, end the search. :D

Just my two cents.

Agree. The only limitations to music is where you limit it yourself. There is plenty out there for everyone and different strokes for different folks. I try to find good in all of it granted what is "good" is quite subjective. If it took any degree of talent then it is worth keeping an open mind to even if you don't prefer the genre.
