Rock is now just watered down metal. Which was awful enough to begin with. There is no real rock n roll left. Country is just pop with a "y'all". Rap/Hip Hop has been compromised in the same way that Punk was. Turned into pop, and manufactured. It's all copy and paste. Style over substance. However, there is still great music being made. In bars and coffee houses all over the world at pretty much every single second. You just have to get out and find it. Any time you put "industry" after an artistic endeavor you will eventually be left with an watered down, tired, meaningless "product". Much of what has become of the musical instrument industry has ironically happened to the music industry. Looks classic and vintage, but it's really just made with junk parts in a factory full of people who are probably treated like crap by their foremen for the benefit of suits.

This I can agree with.

The music wasn't necessarily better in the 60s, it's just that the suits and media hadn't got as strong a hold on it as they have today.
This part, not so much. There was plenty of that shyte going on back then too. And the writing WAS better.

I find myself in Jim's shoes plenty of times. I will be playing something and then stop and ask myself, "Is this all there is? Majors, minors, sevenths and pentatonic scales?" It is at those times when I need to take a break from whatever I'm into at the time and try something new. Jazz usually works. Occasionally some bluegrass but that only has limited potential too. Hip-Hop, dance and basically any sort of "club" music doesn't work because frankly there's not enough musical content in it. To me, people who are into music for "the beats" just don't "get" what music is. I feel you, Jim. Just this one time, though. Normally I wonder what goes on in your mind but this time I feel you. I think you just need to find some new artists to listen to for inspiration. I find iTunes is a great resource for that. You click on "People who bought this also bought..." and it can lead you to artists you never heard of before with lots of 30-90 second sound bites. Maybe get into acoustic guitar music for a little while. There are some pretty cool styles and techniques surfacing in that genre.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Contemporary Christian music and christian radio isn't much better,...I find that sometimes after two minutes of it,I am changing over to a classic rock or oldies station as it is not any different than secular genres. One other thing,...I don't care much for the newer music these days and I am sure as heck no Justin Bieber fan. I enjoy a LOT of Classic Country music like Johnny Cash,George Jones, etc. The newer Pop Country or Urban Country,...if there is any such genre,...does not appeal to me. I don't like Rap or Heavy Metal, either!

Three blind mice has a more complex arrangement then that "song". However the girl was easy on the eye and some attitude and that is all that really counts with that kind of style. I have seen and heard much worse these days. Not that it says much but you can't go comparing that high school spoiled rich girl wannabee ghetto stuff to Mozart.

Actually I did... 8) But ask a rich little spoiled teen girl ghetto wannabee if they think Symphony No. 1 in E flat major is a better song  They would be like "this is elevator music, where are the words?"
