The immediacy of his cancellation and entrance into interventional therapy, along with the 6 week hiatus gives me pause. Based upon the initial 'sketchy' reports, I have concerns for either a colorectal or lung issue. We wish him well.

Saw this posted earlier today:

"Following many months of international touring and after seeking emergency medical attention, Jeff will now undertake a short hospital procedure, and his doctors have instructed a complete break from performance for a total of six weeks. Following the treatment, Jeff will fulfill his U.S. tour commitments beginning in Missoula, Montana, on August 8."

I wish him well. Always pushing the envelope and playing with imagination, technique and no boundaries.

+1!

Jeff is one of those iconoclasts whom many try to emulate but few succeed.

Rawk on, Mr. Beck!

Choose your definitions as you may. As with Hendrix, I see him more as an innovator. They didn't discard the basics, but rather built on them.

So true Arjay, Jennifer Batten gets close, but can't think of any others.
Best wishes on your 70th

Beck is back! Here's a couple photos from last nights concert at the Greek Theater, L.A. We went to Beck's sound check. That was a very cool experience for me. He seemed well and in good spirits, smiling most of the time. At sound check, he looked like he had just climbed out from changing the oil on the tour bus. No disrespect, but he looke grungy.
He played like you know he would, unbelievable mastery of the guitar. Which was a reverse headstock Strat that he used for the entire night except for when he broke a string, and one song he did with a Tele.
His entire band is fantastic and you can tell that they are really enjoying playing at such a high level. I won't even attempt to describe his bass player. She is beyond accolades. He does half the set insturmental and then has a vocalist come out for the remainder of the set. The vocalist is excellent also. They weren't selling programs, so I don't know the band members names.
ZZ Top was a kick $@! polished act. They had the crowd on their feet for nearly the entire set. I really enjoyed them, but everything that happens on the stage during their set is pretty much scripted from hundreds of nights before.
Beck was more of a pure band of musicians playing for the love of their craft.
A young blues guitarist from L.A., Tyler Bryant, opened with an accoustic set by himself. I've seen him with his band, and I like him much better with the band. His accoustic set was good, but not up to the level of Beck or Gibbons, so I think the whole audiance was kind of jaded, knowing what was coming. At one point Tyler managed to step on his cord and unplug himself, then dropped his pick trying to get plugged back in. It sounds worse than it was, he actually rebounded pretty well. But it shows his inexperience. I'll bet he'll be reliving last nights set for a long time.
Here's a pic from sound check and one from the concert.
