There are many guitars, also from Fender that comes with relic treatments. You know, dings and dangs on the guitar and so forth.
Would you guys consider buying 1 of those? I dont. I just dont see the point to buy a guitar that seems to be loved and played for ages but when thats not really the case. Its just fake.
What about you guys?

I'm with most of the people here. I'd rather get a guitar new and "relic" it myself through playing, accidental dropping and such rather than it being factory made.

No, I would not. I will not. I want something that I can play and that will look good for my children when they get them. The whole idea of a relic that is nt a relic is stupid. Mojo does not come from having a crappy looking guitar, it comes from being able to play the guitar you have.

I guess people buy them of no one would sell them. I just can't see why anyone other than collectors would, though. If I wanted a guitar that looked like a turd I could get plenty at pawn shops for cheap.

I think a lot of people need to go play a "relic" before they make their mind up. I have a '65 relic that is my go to ax. I am ready to trade in a LP Standard towards a '60 relic. Not because of the looks, although I think if done right they are awesome, but they just play so damn fine! YMMV

My own instruments tell there own story.

I would take the same model...but let the gigs/recordings and time takes its toll.

I once saw a program on the Discovery channel, "Made in America". It showed the Fender factory and how they made some of the "relic" guitars. They had that guy from the TV show "Cheers", as the host of "Made in America". The people at the factory invited him to help in the relic process. What they did was take a ring of keys and dropped it on the body to make the nicks and scratches. Somehow.....I don't think I'd pay extra for that "special treatment."

But then, everyone has different tastes.

John Ratzenberger (Cliff on "Cheers"). Watch "A Bridge Too Far" and you might catch a glimpse of him dying in a boat. :P

My take on 'relic' guitars - and my local music store has a few - is this: Why the heck do I want to pay *more* money for a guitar that's been antiqued? For absolutely free, I could get a better quality one and antique it myself... :)
