I would rather relic my guitar by playing it over many years.

I don't think I'd buy a heavily reliced guitar. One of the 'closet classics' with the light checkering and cracking of the finishing perhaps, but I'd rather inflict my own damage

I agree with most of the above -- I like the look, but would prefer it happens naturally. However, I don't gig anymore and I take very good care of my babies. My oldest guitar still in the herd is an '86 Strat and I don't think it has more than 3 little scratches on it.

I wouldn't some of them look nice and all but you pay more for it to be pre-damaged looking... I would rather do that myself and save some money...

There are many guitars, also from Fender that comes with relic treatments. Would you guys consider buying 1 of those?

If I came across one (whether it was from the Custom Shop or homemade) and it was at the right price and looked fairly realistic, yeah, I'd consider buying it.

I wouldn't consider some of the really lousy looking ones that guys dragged behind their car. Come to think of it, that kind of relicing might look realistic/okay.

I wouldnt buy one. Its funny but it seems like only guitars sell for more when they are made to look like a relic. Cars devalue if done, antiques devalue if done, coins devalue if done and so do guns. Hmmmm...another question for the universe.

I would not buy a relic made guitar either. Give me a new one
and let me add the charecter myself the old fashion way. Now
if I come across a nice true relic all ya that I would.

Why not give a guitar your own own *cough* custom relic finish? After all, thats what kinda has been happening to my Gibson Melody Maker for the past 47 years. (Some of it is from my dad, I'm only 15...hand-me-down guitar y'know).

No, I wouldnt buy one - thats about like buying one of those baseball hats that already has tears in the fabric on the bill - play them, let the wear happen naturally

Seems unnatural sort of like getting your college degree before you start a single lesson.

Hmm.. I have to say I've been digging up pics of a few of these, and swimming against the tide here I really don't mind those that just looked well used, rather than used for chopping wood in winter..!

I like those small areas of rubbed off paint or varnish, just looking rather worn I guess, and oxidised metalware, no bling anymore.. just a semi-relic perhaps! On the other hand, those 'heavy relics' out there with lots of big dings, sandpaper scratches, and whole chunks o' wood missing? No thanks!

It's a nice thought of course that your own use and playing will in time give your guitar it's own custom patina, but let's face it - this is a world now of instant gratification, and 40 years is a heck of a long time for the non-pro strummer to wait for a homemade relic look to develop! I'm impatient enough learning how to play, let alone waiting for said playing to weary my brand new guitars!

Wouldn't mind finding a tidy relic one day.. or the perfect yard-sale genuine article!

Alright... I will say this. I would not stop from buying a guitar because it was a fender relic. If I like a particular guitar, I like that guitar.
