There is an old guy that occasional comes by the shop and drops off old guitars and parts and boxes of old stuff for us to sell for him or use for our projects. In one of the boxes we recently found a scrap book and you can tell it was old. Mostly music related article clippings and the like from the 50s, 60s and 70s but inside we also found this... (I think it is an 8"x10")
Image

It is a very cool photo but it is not autographed and I have no way to tell with my limited knowledge of photography if this was an actual picture, or a picture of a picture.

I figure on this forum there should be enough Hendrix fanatics to at least let me know if they have ever seen this shot before.....or if anyone knows a way to authenticate it or any other info about the shot itself (dates, location, maybe even what song he was playing etc).

Also to note the actual pic is much sharper then the image here sent from an old Iphone 3g and my lack of photo skills.

Thanks and enjoy the pic.

I've never seen that pic before -- if it's not an original then at least it's a copy of one.

Yeah the more I look at it the more I think it is an actual picture due to the sharpness. It is certainly old. There are some words printed on the back of the pic paper and I need inspect that with a magnifying glass to see if that can help date it or clue what was used to take the pic. I am guessing by the paisley shirt and guitar he is using that is late 60's, well at least after 66. Too bad it is not autographed. My friend who found it taped it to the wall with masking tape and I cringed. When I removed the tape you can see some of the damage it did on the top and bottom of it (where the bright white is showing). Image

A Kodak Instamatic 110 with a flash cube, sure took a pretty good picture for back then.

I have literally hundreds-perhaps thousands-of Hendrix photos and posters and I have never seen this shot and I can't identify the venue either-I'll have to do some sleuthing and see if I can come up with other pix from that same venue.

That would really be appreciated. It am dying to know what this is from. I can say that everything this guy had ever brought in is genuine, authentic and old. He has no idea what anything is worth and takes anything we give him for the stuff or just leaves it or gives it to us. I thought about asking him if he took the pic or knows who did but fear he might take it back and I really want it if it is authentic. If I felt this pic was really important to him it would be a different story but where ever he got or gets this stuff from it is essentially garbage to him and he gladly takes anything. I already got a 69 SG, a bunch of really old Guilds and a rare Dean for like 40 bucks. A gold mine and he does not care. Not to mention buckets and boxes of old guitar stuff I can not even identify.

Those boots are looking a little worn.

Yes they are. I guess back then, unlike now, just because you are talented or famous did not mean you had to have a shoe closet.

Jimi didn't much time to back then to go clothes shopping, etc. Back then it didn't mater what you were wearing. Toward the end, Jimi wore somewhat more conservative clothes while performing. He still wore some flashy clothes, just not as much. RIP JMH.

If the guy has quite a bit of money and truly "does not care," it's cool that you have been able to acquire some very unique and valuable things...
However, if he is hurting financially in any way, it would be very, very cool of you to let him know he could get more for his stuff--even if it dries up your well of cool, cheap items.

He is not hurting financially at all. He just wants to get rid of some "junk". One mans trash is another mans treasure they say. However if I ever sold anything we got from him and made a killing on it I would certainly offer him a cut. So far he has been more then happy with what we have been paying him. Yesterday he dropped off a really nice condition old Pioneer reel to reel. Sadly it is just stereo and not mulitrack but we are going to clean it up..a few minor cosmetic repairs and tinker with it... and if it works will try to sell it for him.

I'd certainly like to know this guy,do you have his address?....Just kidding of course.I just went through the "Hendrix Gear" book and couldn't find anything and unfortunately all my Hendrix biographies, photos, magazines etc. are all put away in boxes in my old music room as we set up the rec room to be my music room and I can't get near them, there is hardly enough space left in the old music room to store my old Marine Band harp.I know that I have pix of that venue somewhere but I don't have that pose and I forget the name of the venue.Unless someone can come up with it,it will be a few weeks at least before I have progressed enough on the music room switch to get my music library set up.There certainly is a downside to be a compulsive reader, especially when it comes to music

A little searching led to these shots from Feb 24 1968 at the Toronto CNE Coliseum. These look pretty close to me:

Those images look really close but I think the jacket is different. Does anyone agree?

Anyhow I got to the office yesterday and did not see the pic and started to freak. Then realized it got buried under stuff and he had sandpaper in top of it. It did not do any further damage but I took that picture right home and put it in a protected frame. Sheesh... some people have no respect for Fender players (both Hendrix and myself) lol.
