Our band has its first gig tomorrow night. Its an outdoor gig and it has been raining for days. It is a festival style gig, with camping, concession etc.
the forecast keeps pushing the sun away, so there is a good possibility that it will still be raining. We have not heard anything from the organizers so we assume its rain or shine. Judging from previous years pictures, the stage has a tarp or canopy on it.
Has anyone gigged in this situation before? Any tips or recommendations, aside from cancelling?

Wear rubber-soled shoes with cotton or woolen socks on stage and try to stay dry.

I've done it. Interesting to say the least. Good luck.

When ever I see pictures of musicians playing while wearing a winter coat with the hood up, I think, how the heck do they do that? Good luck.

I'm not sure if I should bring a tube or solid state amp?
I am almost thinking about the SS because its older and I would be less upset if something happened to it.

Like many, if not most gigging musicians I've been there done that and definitely do not want to do it again.

Even when the stage is under cover, the wind has a way of bringing the spray in from the sides or the front. Keep a towel close by. Be especially careful with the power cords and extensions. The stage may be "dry" but behind the stage the ground may not. Good luck!

Cheers!

It's not a bad idea to get some cardboard boxes , flatten them out and stand on them and also put your amp on them, in case the stage is damp , not through rain, but just general dampness in the air and people carrying stuff up onto the stage from presumably wet ground
A few layers should keep the moisture at bay and you could even take a roll of cling film, wrap it around one piece, put that down then a ordinary piece on top so no moisture soaks through
Best of luck with the gig

Done it before but in South Florida so we just took our shirts off and jammed away. No respect for the instruments lol. They say surface rust adds "patina".

I saw Grand Funk Railroad perform in the rain in Dania Beach, FL, on their first tour. And they were using Hiwatts in the rain.

In order to really ensure that you don't end up frying yourself you could add to the protection that rubber soled shoes give you by using a rubber anti-fatigue mat that safety supply stores sell or buy a box of the coloured interlocking rubber tiles that are sold in hardware stores.I hope that you have a dry gig anyway.Have a great show!!!

Try playing on a "booze cruise" in a storm with rain
and lightning. We used heavy plastic to cover the gear
and there's always some...casualties. Good luck!

A few of us had safety and gear concerns so we endend up cancelling.
The gig was on private land with a couple of bands, it was not a corporate or city run event. It was raining all day and we just weren't comfortable doing it with the weather conditions.
On a plus note, I managed to get tickets to Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite!

Better safe than sorry, YC.

I don't fault you one bit.
