I was planning to get a G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Semi-hollow this summer, and I was wondering what other Fender addictive people like myself think about the G&L brand.

I like the z pickups on some of the G & Ls. I asked a guy who records and works on guitars at a guitar store about it and whether it works. He says it does work to cancel hum and was Leo Fender's adaptation to a Strat-style guitar of what he did with the Fender bass guitar. Fender probably should buy G&L and reunite the brand - Fender even has the George (as in G) '57 Stratocaster from the Custom Shop going on. My guess is that G&L is not for sale at a reasonable price. All in all, I prefer Fender because that's where most of the prime of the creative energies of George and Leo went, and it's also been taken to higher levels since. At the same time, I'd like to be able to buy a reasonably priced Fender Stratocaster guitar with the z pickups and so someday I'll probably step up to G&L's Stratocaster for one guitar.

I don't know much about their Tribute products, but I've heard the USA-made G&Ls have 'custom shop quality'. As for Fender buying G&L, it seems to me it would duplicate products they already make except maybe the Commanche.

Hello Carv,

I like G&L products.
They feel good, play well, sound nice.

Maybe someday.

Cheers.

I really think G&L 's are the next best thing to a Fender. Anything Leo made was cool. I have one of his Musicman amps from the 70's. Sounds great.

I've played several G&L Tele's, and they were good. Didn't quite compare to the "real thing" though. But they still are very good.

I am the proud owner of a Tribute Legacy and I love it! I has a really silky neck and great sound. The action is wonderful. I love it.

Guys: as much as I hate to lock this (it's no secret that I own a few G&L's myself), this thread is really questionably appropriate here. It's kind of like logging in to a Chevy truck forum and asking folks their opinion on Ford trucks. Not quite the same, but you know what I mean! We're gearheads too and definitely understand the need and desire to get out there and try a bunch of different stuff, but stuff like this has to be approached a tad more delicately ...
