I changed strings on vintage style tuners for the first time last night and I've got to say, it went so smooth compared to when I change strings on modern style tuners.
I had a bit of trouble with the B string popping out. I cut it a bit longer than the other strings to get more wraps around the pole and it kept popping out. I cut back the strung a little bit and it worked like a charm.
I struggle quite a bit with modern tuners. I can't seem to get it to wrap without crossing over. It takes me a long time to get them right. It almost makes me want to change over all my tuners!

I wish they were still standard issue.

They are, on the vintage-spec Fender re-issues and Strats that are based on those guitars (Classic Series, Classic Player, Roadworn, etc).

A few Squiers have them too. This was on my Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. I have seen them on some of the Vintage Modified line as well.

Even if you don't change strings a lot, it's hard to beat locking tuners! 8)
