Hey everyone,

Fender amps have always been a great way for you to dial in that "perfect" sound. Maybe you prefer your output super clean. Maybe you have a penchant for warm vintage tones. Maybe you're a fan of tone that's super-overdriven and scorching-hot. But no matter what your preference, there's a Fender amp to get you there, plus all the accessories you need to give your tone an extra shot of personality.

So tell us:
What's your recipe for great Fender tone?

From amp settings to effects, accessories and of course, your trusty ax, let us know what's in your arsenal and on your pedal board to make your tone uniquely yours.

Thanks, all!

One thing that's been said a lot around here:
Fender makes something for everybody's wallet.

So I think it's fitting to start here with the Frontman 25R.
I love 'em so much, I have four of them.
*Performance repeatability between all four.
*Nice true sound for living room gigs.
*Set Treble, Mid, and Bass to 5 and leave it alone
(not much for overdrive or reverb on the amp)
*No detectable hum or hiss

With four very different Strats (HH, HSH, HSS, and SSS),
these amps allow for the perfect control environment when comparing different pick-up sounds.

I'm into experimental and psychedlic music
and so I use Eventide pedals (Space Reverb, Mod Factor, and Pitch Factor),
and these amps can handle any sawtooth or square wave without the annoying infidelity.

These entry-level amps do the job.

My recipe for great Fender tone?

Easy...my (heavily customized) Telecaster through my '63 reissue Vibroverb amp, with a TS9 Tube Screamer and an MXR Micro Amp between them!

I keep it pretty simple, a good Strat through a Vox Wah Wah, into a Digitech Crossroads pedal, then a TCTronics Polyphonic tuner and straight into a '66 Bassman or '65 Super Reverb. And on occasion I throw a 63 Reverb Reissue in front of the Bassman. Can't go wrong with vintage Fender amps!

Lately it's been:

Aztec Gold FSR American Deluxe Strat --> Pigtronix FAT Drive --> MXR Carbon Copy Delay --> Fender Princeton 112 Plus with an Eminence Red, White, and Blues speaker installed. Normal channel, tones at 5, reverb on 2.

Texas Tele thru Full Drive 2 into Blues Deluxe RI, makes any tone I want in single coils. (Until I put my strat together.) :)

I really need nothing more than a good Strat into a TC HOF Reverb and a decent amp (prefer Marshall) and I'm away. I can make it sound like I want it to.

I'm just not a single tone kinda guy, so for me the starting point is my Mustang IV version 2, and my preferred tone depends on the music. Some of my favorites are:

Vintage British Classic Rock: Who defines this better than The Who, so it's the Vox AC-15 model with an American Strat using Lace Hot Gold pups.

Vintage American Classic Rock: Again, the definition by default is Aerosmith, so it's the Hi-Watt model with my Les Paul Standard.

Traditional Nashville Sound: Think Chet Atkins and you end up with the '68 Deluxe Reverb Model with my Gibson ES-335.

Chicken Pickin' Nashville: Gotta have the nice clean tones of the '65 Twin Reverb with the American Strat Split coil bridge humbucker & single coil middle.

Eric Clapton Blues: I downloaded this setup from the YouTube "In The Blues" guy of an emulation of the EC Twinolux, again with the American Strat.

Queen Style Heavy Metal: The Marshall Plexi model with some bias changes and 4-speaker cabinet emulation with the Les Paul standard.

Early Joe Walsh: Think "Funk 49" and you end up with the Fender Champ model, middle gain, lots of mid, lots of volume and the bridge pickup on Les Paul standard.

Joseph played a Telecaster through a '64 Vibroverb for many of the tracks on the first two James Gang albums, including "Funk 49".

P bass. Flatwound strings. Straight into the amp. Why try to fix what was never broken?

LUV! my Fender Rumbles 75 & 350! Both my Fender Precision and Jazz basses sound fabulous through them and give me the classic Fender silver-faced Bassman sound with ease plus the versatility for more modern tones too. Ecstatic!

My favorite is '08 American Std through Rivera-era Concert amp.

I sometimes add a Korg PX5D for effects and sims.

Right now, I'm into warm cleans and vintage bluesy/rocky crunch.

I have a MustangIII v1, and a Super Champ X2. I've mainly been using the Mustang as the low level volume is more controllable- and for the fx loop.

My go to sounds are 2 presets I made: My Bassman- which is a slightly crunchy Bassman with '63 Fender spring reverb, running through the 2x12c cabinet. This is my dirty sound. My Twin Reverb- a reworked Country Deluxe preset, using the '65 Twin, and has the vintage tremolo added (defaulting to off) Compressor and large room reverb are on. This is my default clean tone.

In front: I have a Fulltone OCD running into an MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion.

In The loop: TC Corona Chorus > MXR Micro Flanger> MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay.

The dirt pedals handle all of my drive needs, mostly to add character to the Bassman, or using the '78, to give the twin that "hot" cranked amp sound w/o too much distortion. Also adds a ton of chime to single coils.

Chorus is mostly left on to add a subtle liquid depth to the twin, or some added thickness to drive sounds. The others are as needed.

For guitars, I have a variety: Classic Vibe '60s Tele ,American Standard Strat, and Vintage Modified 60's Surf Strat w/ lipsticks, for single coils, And a Gibson Firebird, Gibson '50s tribute SG w/P90s, Schecter Solo Special w/p100 in the neck, and an Epi Les Paul Traditional Plus Top Pro for 'bucker sounds.

Lately "my" favorite Fender sound is a Gibson Guitar into any tweedish Fender Amp, or an SS 60. THAT'S the sound right there! A warm vintagey clean, with tons of character. Are you guys SURE you didn't have a Les Paul or Firebird hidden way in the back of the testing lab when you voiced those amps?? Sure sounds like it!

My Mustang sure loves P90's.

True, but as he revealed in his "Guitar Center Sessions" interview promoting his Analog Man album last year he said he's constantly asked how he achieved his Funk 49 tone, and he said it was a simple Champ amp. Direct from his mouth...
