There's also a product for carpets called "Re-Nuz-It" that works in similar fashion.

Sunlight isn't likely to affect lingering odors but merely airing out the interior with the case's lid left open will help.

Don't let any pets around it though.

Might I suggest "Reading Is Fundamental" for you? You seem to have some comprehension issues, einstein.

You are wasting your time Arjay...you can buy books, send them to school, but you can't make em learn!

You might be right, Tony.

Perhaps he'd have better luck sticking his head in a refrigerator since it's apparently full of intellectual cheese-whiz.

But he is slenderman. He would give cheese wiz a bad name. I can't imagine wiping my guitars down with kerosine. Maybe if that don't work gasoline might. I think he's been sniffing kerosine.

luckily I was given the power of common sense from the genetic code of my ancestors so i won't be using anything harmful on or around my guitars. I have been cleaning, restoring and working on electronics and guitars for many years. I have just never dealt with super smoke smell that was on something like a case. I cleaned it down and gave it a liberal dose of baking soda and will let that cure for a day or so. i am sure it will work, also old fashion time and use will also help it go away. thanks for the baking soda tip guys!

My suggestion kerosene is for the guitar stains, not a guitar case. But vinegar solution will work for the case.
Drop dead.

The OP asked everyone, which includes me.
I'm not experienced with using kerosene as a cleaner on a finished wood product, but common sense tells me (1) it wouldn't necessarily be good for the finish and (2) it's certainly not going to smell any better than cigarette smoke, which was the original issue.

Also, even a mild vinegar solution wouldn't be too great for the INTERIOR of a guitar case's fur, especially if that solution wasn't rinsed properly.

Perhaps a polite response with some understanding of the history of our statements would make this situation a bit less tense;
Not making suggestions that could potentially harm a person's instrument is a definite improvement...

Yep, I did that with a smoker's car I bought...spread pipe tobacco all over the carpet, left it for a week, vacuumed and voila, the scent was gone.

Kerosene evaporates over time and is odorless. In truth, any liquid you use could be damaging to the wood if used wrong. Using a small amount of kerosene or other petroleum distillate is the best solution AND I HAVE NEVER RUINED A GUITAR using it.
Hell, why not use piss?

how exactly the blue hell did this insanely simple question/thread end up here? If it is all the same mods please lock or delete this thread, i got some decent tips and certainly did not intend this to degrade into what it has become. I am seriously losing all faith in humankind. Next time i will just keep my question to myself and google it.

You can always use the forum's PM system to pose a question to individual members. We have many here who are old hands and quite knowledgeable about guitar finishes -- guys like Miami Mike, Orville Owner, Screaming Armadillo, BMW-KTM, JohnC, Brother Dave, etc.

Why thank you, Arjay! I never thought of myself as an expert, lol.

What is your opinion about putting kerosene on a guitar's finish? That seems counter to anything I'd do to a guitar, except maybe one of those pointy headed heavy metal pieces of crap I hate...

I'd have no reservations whatsoever with using it on slenderman's guitar.
