I just picked up a guitar that came from an obviously heavy smoker. the guitar was bought new in November and not played at all but really has the smell to it. I suspect it is mostly from the case. I wiped the exterior of the hard case down with a lysol wipe and thought maybe just leaving it open would help. Anyone have any tips that they find works well other than cleaning and time?

Spinkle some baking soda in the case and let it sit for a day or so. Vacuum it out.
I've read sitting it in the sun for the day works well also.
Not sure I'd leave the guitar in the sun though!

There's also a product for carpets called "Re-Nuz-It" that works in similar fashion.

Sunlight isn't likely to affect lingering odors but merely airing out the interior with the case's lid left open will help.

Don't let any pets around it though.

Get a charcol activated spray used for hunting and that should work.

Take up smoking, and you won't notice.

No, seriously, the smell will dissipate and what faint traces remain should be considered an olfactory patina.

I aleady told you to use either kerosene small section at a time, or try vinegar soaking one side at a time for 15 minutes. Repeat.

LOL! Sort of my thought too!!!
and I'm not sure what smell would annoy me more, Kerosene or stale cig smoke..

hard to choose..

anyway!!!

have you tried Fabreeze spray? maybe hit it a few times, and leave it in the sun for a while to dry really good.

Fabreeze for the case, but not for the guitar.

Perhaps NASA will start recalling some of its rocket scientists and he'll find he has less time to spend here on the forum.

flavored tobacco, lock the guitar in the case with it for a week.

If you can stand them use cheap and heavily perfumed fabric softeners as a diluted wash or spray.

Try a pine scented "little tree" air freshener.

Good luck!

So who asked you? Didn't see your reccomendation.
My suggestion kerosene is for the guitar stains, not a guitar case. But vinegar solution will work for the case.
Drop dead.

Might I suggest "Reading Is Fundamental" for you? You seem to have some comprehension issues, einstein.
