My 79 Guild shocked me when I tried to play it. The jack is failing :(

Oh well, she's 35 years old, let's get the repairs going.

I'd be looking at the amp rather than the guitar.

There is jack on a guitar too . I was thinking Buxom said is guitar jack is broken ???

" ...my Guild is shocked me " Is this mean Buxom receive electrical shock ?

If yes , Buxom , look a the ground of your amp , do you have a 3 prong power cord to the wall outlet ? What is your amp ?

I thought you were going to say you dropped it and the headstock snapped ... or it was stolen. A jack is not that big of a deal. You will be okay.

That has been my experience, if the amp does not have a 3-prong, then it is not electrically grounded to the power source. I have a couple early/mid-60's amps and changing to 3-prong resolved the "shocking" experiences. Also, a non-grounded (2-prong) or faulty electrical outlet can cause the same issue.

I tough he was talking about a Guild guitar , not a amp when he write ;

"My 79 Guild shocked me when I tried to play it. ".....

Sure it is because of the 2 prong cord

I did not play amp myself :lol:

All evidence points to the jack failing.

Last week during practice, the jack gave out on my friend, I assumed it was the cable and told him to switch em out. No luck.

My practice amp was made in 1986, so it isn't ancient. Yes, it has a grounded plug.

My Stratocaster has had no issues in regards to the electronics.
