Sorry for the lengthy post, but it's photo-heavy with some unique guitars!

A few months back I picked up an Epi 339 in sunburst finish, and spent some time looking for a replacement pickguard, maybe tortoiseshell, to replace the black one that it came with. I looked online but couldn't find anything, and I don't have the tools to do it myself.

My brother called me up one day to tell me about a luthier he found in our town, which is great since we only had a few small stores, and even fewer techs. The guy happened to have the smashed back panel of an expensive Taylor 714 acoustic, with a maple stripe down the middle.

It belonged to a woman whose husband smashed it when he was drunk. Something about her talking to another man. He said the piece came in with Sharpie on it saying "This is why you need anger management" and "you did this when you were drunk." He cut a truss rod cover for my brother's guitar, and it looked great, so I called about having a a pickguard cut from the same piece. Sure enough, he had a large enough piece, and was even able to include the stripe.

The lighting is poor, but it's gorgeous in person, and I think the story behind it is great.

And while I'm at it with the photos, here's two of the guitars the luthier had in his shop for sale. They were built by another local builder (not professional). I love the look of this one, but it was even heavier than my LP, and had a neck like a baseball bat. The silver one behind it was built by the same guy, and the SG in the next photo.

This is the prettiest SG I've ever seen. Also a large neck, and the neck pocket was cut just a little too shallow. You can see where he put a block under the bridge to compensate. It's going for $300, I might have to jump on that and have it fixed up.

As an added bonus, here's a shot of my current pedalboard, and a lighter two-tier one I'm building to replace it. Just waiting on the velcro.

That SG looks spectacular and for just $300,it's a steal.Once he gets a better ideal about proper neck profiles and how to properly set a neck at the right height in relation to the bridge height, his instruments will no doubt be in demand,if they sound as good as that SG looks.
