No the amp was not recapped. I've been wondering about that myself.
I asked for the tech to check it out and give me an estimate on reviving it.
He called the next day and said it was finished.
Straight into channel one seems good. I had a bit of volume loss earlier, and plugged and unplugged a cable into every input, and it seemed to work after that.

Filter caps can give you some distortion as well as other issues.

+1

Those "other issues" can be quite serious......and very detrimental to the amp's health.

Would you guys recommend having them changed?

Every electrolytic cap in that amp should be replaced -- the sooner the better.

Thanks Arjay and you too Supro. You guys have been very helpful with this amp.
I will give the tech a call tomorrow and see if he checked them at all and possibly take it in again.

Electrolytic caps as used in filter stages, bypass circuits, and bias supplies should be checked regularly and replaced every ten or fifteen years. The better-quality caps last longer, the budget-priced stuff is junk. If the amp is a keeper, make sure it's a survivor as well.

+1 Yoda, don't let them use IC (Illinois Capacitor) They're junk. I'd go with F&T, Sprague, Mallory etc. Well worth the investment. It's not worth losing transformers over a few bucks.

I called the tech today, and he told me the caps were fine and didn't think they needed to be changed.
He doesn't think the noise I'm experiencing is due to the caps. He said that other noise like hum would be present. He also said that it wouldn't damage any other parts of the amp if I continue to play it as is.
He estimated about $65 to replace them. I might as well for that price.

It's called "preventative maintenance" for a reason.

Pay the sixty-five bucks.

Yep, I think I will.
He is away for a week, so I will take it down next week.

Good move Yoda. If the caps are more than 10 or 15 years old, you're playing with fire. Plus if the amp was laying around unused for a long time, externally they may show no signs of a problem, but internally they may be dried out. They can put noise in the signal path. The preamp tubes can too.

Here is a little sound clip for those of you who have kept up with this thread.
The guitar, Les Paul Studio, bridge pick up, is in channel one bright with the bright switch engaged at a quarter volume.
Its recorded with my iPhone, because that is all I have right now.
