I agree about the tube socket, but just because a transformer shows a little rust doesn't always make it bad. It can eventually but not always. You can make it bad if it isn't by removing anything but the loose stuff causing hysteresis losses. Yeah, I've been reading up on all things about amplifiers and transformers so when I finally build an amp of my own design and source parts, I won't sound like a dumbass. I'm no expert but I'm learning. If it's still good, you could brush off the loose stuff and coat it with some varnish. The important thing is to have a good tech look it over. A cap job would be due if it wasn't already done.

Ah okay then yes that main baffle board is most likely glued. Not sure if you will be able to remove that without damaging it.

Yoda, any reason to pull the baffle board? If it's glued, the glues back then had all the nasty chemicals in them that made them stick permanently. If you wanted to repaint it, I'd just pull the speakers and carefully mask everything.

I wanted to take a look at what kind of speakers were in it, and possible wipe it out if necessary. I am not going to pull it apart if it doesn't come out easy. I'd be best to leave it alone than cause unnecessary damage.

I would think the back panel should be removable. They had to consider servicing and replacing blown speakers etc.

I'll try again tomorrow, when I pull them out again to try and take off the rusty corner brackets.

I did a little more clean up today. I didn't pull the baffle board, but I did pull the cabinet handles. Here is what I saw.

The inside looks pretty clean and ok as far as I can tell. It looks like some minor water stains on the bottom corner.

It's just the magnet that's square. There used to be small radio speakers that were square and oval too.

I was going to take both speaker cabinets with me to the tech as well, but I figured I might be able to test them at home myself. The cabinets are 8 ohms.
Can I hook them up to the external speaker output on my Traynor YCV40WR?

Just go light on that volume control and keep your ears safe -- that's a lot of speakers there!
