I'm going to guess that the woman is a young Abigail Ybarra.

Is Mr. Randall checking out Abby?

Except for Leo Fender, I don't recognize the people in the picture so I went with the Google-is-your-friend approach: right-click on image, then select "Search Google for this image" from the drop-down menu.

http://wired-for-sound.blogspot.ca/2010 ... ddock.html
"Eddie Miller (second from left) with Dub Williams (guitar) and Leo Fender at the Fender factory, c. 1950. "

http://jimsworldandwelcometoit.com/tag/leo-fender/
"In this photo from 1950, Leo Fender is on the right. The player holding the Fender Broadcaster guitar is Dub Williams and the fellow behind him is singer/songwriter/bandleader Eddie Miller; together they wrote the classic “Release Me.” The woman hasn’t been identified."

Cheers!

If that photo was 1950 it couldn't possibly be Ms. Ybarra. Sure thought that was George Fullerton and Don Randall. This guy does look skinnier than Mr. Randall though.

That most definiately looks like Abby. The nose; smile, and eyes match up well with recent photos of her. Since she is still alive and kicking, why don't we ask her who's in the photo? Also the photo could be no newer than 1957 since that's when Abby started at Fender. It takes time to become a star pickup winder, so this photo may well be from the 60's

The guy that appears to be learing at Abby sure does look like Speedy West to me.

Sure looks like it was a lively place to work back then. People stopping by and trying out gear. Hard work for sure, but I bet it had it's moments.

and HOT! Anyone who's ever been to California knows that place cooks. Also if you've not worked in a woodshop the tremendous amount of sawdust and fine wood dust from sanding. Breathing all that while covered in wood dust plus pouring sweat all day. You had to get off work feeling like KFC Original Recipe.

If Abby started in 1957, I don't think that's her--the amps on the shelves behind them appear to be earlier (pre-57) cabinets (if I have my amp styles correct)...Arjay? Can you confirm the amps in the background?

I too will wait for our resident experts to chime in, but to my untrained eye I would say the cabinets in the picture look very close in size and style to the Champion 600.

    Cheers!
