Hi Fender Folk!!
Its been a long time!! I hope everyone's rockin and playing heaps!! I have a question to the AMP aficionado's..... I have found my Tone in a early Blues Deluxe with a tone tubby hemp speaker... Every where i play people comment on it, from a natural break up point of view and gritty bluesy sound its just sweeet!!! I am gassing for another toy.... Its Just strats i play through it, bluesy playing, The question is i have a friend that want to sell me a fender twin reverb modern Era, it sounds nice, Its super loud, It will only be pedals that pushes this AMP not volume, Is the modern Era twin reverb a good amp, Or should i buy a silver face? It sounds sweet, I'm probably just looking for an excuse to spend money... Love to know your thoughts??

Cheers from over the pond!!

Good to see your post ozrv! A Fender twin reverb modern Era sounds interesting but I am not sure what the differences are. Hoping the lounge amp gurus can spell them out here. Off the top of my pointy head 85 watts and 2/12s is a great start if the price is right. You can do many cool changes with that cabinet, even doctor frankenstein would be excited to have that specimen to work on. Pics, and sound samples when you can please?

The hallmark of the Twin has always been it's clarity and lack of natural breakup like you would find on other amps like a Deluxe. It was designed from the beginning to be that way. Personally I find them much more useful for country, jazz, and certain types of rock. Of course with pedals you can make it whatever kind of amp you want, but I tend to try to go with the natural flow of what an amp was designed to do.

If it is pedals and not volume that "pushes the amp" is the amp type that important? I would think speaker configuration would play a larger factor in the tone if the power amp is not being pushed.

my two sense (pun intended). :P

To an extant, this is true. My tone is consistent regardless of whether I'm playing a Princeton Reverb or my Dual Showman.

Which is why when I read someone's opinion of an amp, I wonder how they are using it. A bedroom experience is not going to say how it will sound set to 8 or above.
Last weekend I saw two great guitarists push a red knob Twin Reverb at ear blasting levels at an outdoor concert. As much as I'd like to have that amp, I know that my experience with it would not be anywhere near what I heard them do with it.

I can't offer anything inre the Twin. I just wanted to say that the Blues Deluxe gives ME MY idea of "THE" sound as well. I don't have to do a damn thing with the knobs either- it just sounds that way as soon as I plug in. I've mainly played My Gibbo Firebird, SG, and LP through it, as I've yet to buy one. Seeing as how Fender most certainly voiced it around Strats and Teles, I'm sure they'll sound awesome through it as well.

Just something about that fat warm clean, and just on the edge tones that just do it for me. Add a good fuzz, and it's rawk god territory.

FWIW, Peavey's Classic series "do" that same sound very well, too.

The red knob twin is quite ear blistering. Mine is almost unbearable at 4

I think it's a good amp and a nice change from your other amp.

Go for it!
