Posted this on the other thread of the same topic:
" Most of all Fender gear lasts a long time, I know because my Fender gear is old lol. I was born the same year that the 1st Precision Bass Guitar was brought to the market, that is 1951. FMIC is mostly young people now and young people make mistakes, you have to do that when you are young, that is how you learn. Hang on to your old Fender gear, keep your eyes and ears open for deals on used Fender gear, pray that the new guard doesn't ruin Leo's legacy, happy trails to you all. :D "

I'm editing this post because our new board members should have a clear shot at the big time, we wish them well.

Every time I have a mental image of the Edge,I picture him with a Gibson Explorer. I don't know what he's been playing for the past 20 years because I lost interest in them after the first 3 albums, but I had seen him playing Gibsons moreso than Fenders. I'm sure that there are musicians who are more associated with Fender than Edge and Bono who would be much better choices.

U2 has a new album coming out...just another money making scheme by Boner and his total lack of Edge guitar player.

I don't know. Everytime I picture Edge it's with his Strat, but he's definitely no loyalist. However, He has been playing a Gretsch Penguin lately and Bono has played a Gretsch for years. As I stated in the other thread. My worry is with Roback and their talk of "the future" and how Edge embraces technology that we're going to see what makes Fender great go away and end up a with a company full of modern spec garbage and modelling amps. If I wanted that I could literally choose ANY other brand. I choose Fender because I can get a Fender still. Vintage Frets, Radius, Finish, Tone. Not some knock off computerized hunk of crap. This wreaks of another CBS era.

I was quite happy to part with nearly three large for my Custom Shop Time Machine re-issue Strat precisely because of its vintage-spec frets, radius, finish, and tone. If these latest personnel appointments to the corporate board are intended to usher FMIC into the brave new world of all-digital excreta and blasphemous "re-designs" of the most perfectly-created instruments ever made, that guitar will likely be my last new Fender product.

Doesn't bother me that either one of them is on the board of directors but they should have at least used a pic of the edge with a fender :D

Agreed. I'm about to take the plunge on a Custom Shop bass myself. Either a personally spec'd out teambuilt with a mix of vintage specs from a few years combined or a time machine model.

Here's the really disturbing thing. I've noticed in the last couple of years that even the CS is churning out "vintage" models with non-vintage appointments. 51 P bass runs with medium jumbo frets. 57 and later P's with 9.5 radius.

It's just I have a really bad feeling in my gut that we're about to see from Fender top to bottom is one neck profile, one radius, one fret size and poly finishes. If you want any else you'll have to go to the custom shop. Even then, you have to actually order it because most of their runs are tainted with the modern specs.

The argument will always be. "Well that's what MOST modern players want." Well MOST modern players don't drop American Vintage or CS money on instruments, either.
