It doesn't work that way for me. Songs, instead, remind me of time periods, or a certain year, or things happening in my life.

Same here...the music that is the soundtrack to your life!

I always associate The day the Music Died by Don Mclain with my hometown because that song was an anthem for us.

Anything from Led Zeppelin I reminds me of when RAGBRAI came to town and I was admidst the chaos and heat all day to come home and nurse my sunburns after discovering the CD arrived by mail. Same for Hey Hey What can I do? since I got the boxed set as well.

In My Life by the Beatles reminds me of things that have happened in my life. Crocodile Rock by Elton John always remingds me of my dad dancing when we would stop at a redlight. Everytime I hear Love Reign O'er Me I think of my mom. And whenever my dad plays this southern blues rythm on his guitar or even when I play it on my guitar, it brings me back to when I was younger and my dad would always play it for me. It ALWAYS reminds me of that time, ALWAYS. Also I'm Only Sleeping by the Beatles reminds me of my Christmas break this last Christmas because I listened to the Revolver CD over and over again. Fixing A Hole by the Beatles reminds me of my school because a lot of people think i'm wierd and I interperate the song as it saying to not let them thinking your wierd bother you. Getting Better by the Beatles also reminds me of this school year and how some of my teachers were just laying rules on us so much you might think it was unconstitutional but how I worked through it. Those aren't all places, but thats what those songs remind me of

Panama by Van Halen reminds me of the last day of school, and peeling out of the parking lot.

Whenever I hear that one Tony Bennett song (can't remember the words but I know the melody I think of Atlantic City). Maybe someone out there can remind me of what I am thinking of. Maybe someone else thinks the same thing I do.

P.S. - Atlantic City = Overrated!!!
New York is a little overrated now too, it's too family friendly, it's not a "real" city. It's full of tourists now. Just a thought.

I've always thought Atlantic City was a pit. Haven't been there since the 80's though. Yeah, NY has changed. Where's the danger? Where's the dude selling nickle bags in Times Square? It's for the best though. When I was a kid growing up in NYC it was pretty nasty. Burned out hulks of stolen/stripped cars lined every highway. Litter everywhere. It really wasn't very safe. I do miss the green, cherry top cop cars though.

I was in Jersey that summer. I did go into the city that year to see the old masted sailing ships sail into the harbor. It was quite the sight. The summer of sam. Man, the whole damn city was scared that summer.

the song kashmir by led zeppelin reminds me off a day i was in a pickuptruck with my friend and guitarist. we were riding with his sister to a gig and kashmir came on the radio. we both agreed instantly that the song sounds like a man wandering through the desert. i remember driving by a vast lake and listening to that song on a 98 degree day.
