Hey people

I don't know if I'm alone with this, I doubt it, but I just found it interesting. I have songs that remind me of places, and vice versa. Here's my list of those songs:

Guildford, UK - Coldplay (shame :(), Square One
London, UK - Covered In Rain, John Mayer
Milan, Italy - Speak To Me/Breathe, Pink Floyd
New York, USA - Couldn't Stand The Weather, SRV

Yeah, those are all I can think of at the moment. It's odd that 'Covered In Rain' reminds me of London seeing as it's supposed to be the other half of 'City Love' (which is about New York).

Share your songs and places too!

It's not usually the lyrics of songs that remind me of places, but simply listening to them when going past certain points. It's usually when I listen to the song for the first time in a while and I get a deep feeling of relation to the current situation inside of me. So, me telling you songs I relate to places would seem very awkward and meaningless. There are a few songs that all out mention places that I relate to things, like Bruce Springstein's "The River" to the town I live right by (mentioned in the lyric "the johnstown company" in the song)

I just mean did you listen to a song loads when you were in one place and when you hear it, it reminds you of that place? That's cool though!

I know what you mean, but I generally just don't associate songs to places unless it flat out describes a place. It's usually along the line of me listening to the song, getting some meaning out of it, and just remembering the whole situation i.e. surroundings, time of year, etc. Like the song Escape by Muse reminds me of an apartment room in Ocean City. It has nothing to do with the beach or the good times along with it, I simply remember hearing the song and realizing something about it that I now associate it with the room.

Anything from Dark Side of the Moon reminds me of being under a coffee table at a friends house while cutting school. Sorry, I can't explain it here.

Down By the River by Neil Young reminds me of a country road that winds down a river in my home town where me and some good friends used to hang out.

Covered in Rain by Mayer reminds me of the Blossom outdoor ampitheatre which is the only place I've ever seen that song live and saw one of the best shows of my life.

There There by Radiohead reminds me of the hot Manchester, Tennessee sun of Bonnaroo, and the epic 28 song set I saw them play there in 2006.

All of Dark Side of the Moon reminds me of my hometown, and my friend's basement.

One Rainy Wish and Bold as Love by Hendrix both remind me of the last summer I ever had in my hometown with those aforementioned friends, and the old cliffs at the rock quarry we used to jump off of.

I tie almost all the memories in my life to music. It's really an awesome thing. When I hear a song it takes me to a higher level than just listening to it. It brings me back to the state of mind I was experiencing when I first got into that music. Cool thread.

It doesn't work that way for me. Songs, instead, remind me of time periods, or a certain year, or things happening in my life.

I guess that's kinda what I mean. But at the same time I can point to highlights in those periods, and remember exactly what song we were listening to, so I guess the place thing still works for me.

The album Who Made Who by ACDC reminds me of living in southwest Colorado. Every time I hear a song off of the album it takes me back to that very cold little town. I remember clearly looking out the window at the frozen landscape and listening to the album (I believe it was relatively new then).

Some Girls by the Rolling Stones reminds me of a girl named
Kim and my 1969 Chevelle SS and the park accross from were
she lived. We had been friends for over ten years before that
night and a few weeks after that a animal took her from us all
when she went to help her little sister after he pushed his way
threw there front door. That was 1979 and when ever I hear that
song I think of her and the good times we had together.

Led Zeppelins' In the Evening always reminds me of Hendrix and Jim Morrison and of the fallen guitar heros of yesteryear.

Gator Country (by Molly Hatchet) reminds me of the swamps in Florida. I seldom even go to Florida, but every time I listen to the song that one thing just pops up in my head.

Remember a Day, Breathe, Time, A Pillow of Winds and Grantchester Meadows all remind me of summer holidays in Sweden
For obvious reasons In My Life gives me a quick tour through my life
And overall the Beatles remind me of a spring day when I was around 10 or maybe younger, my mother was doing some cleaning and was listening to the Beatles, I just happened to suddenly notice the music and thought 'that's just awesome'.
That is a moment I will hopefully never forget
