Tore my collateral ulnar ligament on my right thumb while skateboarding. Now I'll be wearing a mitten-like thumb splint for about a month. Tried playing finger style and it didn't feel like a good idea. Will also have to wait on the ding repair I mentioned in an earlier post, but I'll still be on the forum from time to time, typing left-handed...

Ouch.
While finger picking PIMA might be difficult without a thumb (or, rather, too much thumb), you should still be able to do IMAC finger strikes (flamenco style). It's easier if you let the nails grow though.

Once the pain subsides, you just need a keyboard with a space bar sized for your new and improved thumb...

Sorry to hear of your injury !

Best wishes for a Speedy recovery ! :D

But it does illustrate the importance for a guitar player to take care of one's hands.

I work daily w/ dumbells to strengthen and achieve greater flexibility in my forearms and hands.

These days, I also wear gloves when doing any automotive or other work to help protect the hands, something I'd never done in the past.

Of course, these are no guarantee of preventing hand injuries, but both these methods can help as does the overall awareness to keep them safe.

cheers!

Wow, that sucks. I bet when you get that off it will force you to use correct picking technique (keeping the thumb stationary and using the wrist). Maybe in the meantime you can find a giant pick (just kidding). That will heal, it may take some time, but it will heal. I hope you are better soon.

That looks nasty. Warm, but nasty.

I'm guessing once the cast is off you'll have lost some strength in the thumb, might want to take it easy for a while when you get back to playing!

Brian! Owy ow ow ow! Little Brother please take care of that injury and follow Doctors orders as best you can. A finger pick experiment in the works while healing is happening maybe? I've thought of trying those in the past, Johnny Winter style, this would be the time? 8)

string muting shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry. I couldn't resist.
